The 1% network has announced details of a ‘political walking tour’ through the affluent districts of Dublin 2 and Dublin 4. The tour, which will bring protesters through the ‘heartland of the Golden Circle’, will stop at a number of locations, including the new headquarters of Anglo Irish Bank on Burlington Road, property developer Johnny Ronan’s property on Burlington Road and IBEC headquarters on Baggot Street. The tour will assemble at the Wolfe Tone Monument on Stephens Green at 1pm on Saturday, October 9th, 2010. read full story / add a comment

14 Catholic Worker and other friends have been on trial in Las Vegas for the nonviolent resistance action they took at Creech Air Force Base in the Nevada desert (USA) against drone warfare that is directed from the base over Pakistan and Afghanistan. The Bord Pleannala oral hearing saga continued today in Bellmullet at the Broadhaven Bay Hotel, looking at the Compulsory Acquisition Orders of the present project application of the Shell Corrib Gas proposed estuary pipeline route, as well as various other aspects of the project. The various concerns raised by local objectors and the Rossport Solidarity Camp were not appeased by Shell's experts, and the question of whether the project was in 'the public interest' was once again raised by Mr Leo Mulrooney, Barrister for local land owners. read full story / add a comment

When I left Australia in May 2010, the OZ military fatalities in Afghanistan stood at 11 over the previous 9 years. They have now doubled in the last few months including the death of an Irish born man from Carlow serving with the Australian SAS. Australian fatlities.....

Last Wednesday protesters disrupted Shell's work as they moved one of their hideous drilling rigs into a shallow part of the SAC estuary, close to the Rossport solidarity camp. Protesters used kayaks to get to the rig which was flanked by fourteen boats of I-RMS security and Gardai. read full story / add a comment
