The government of the Russian Federation authorized the arrest of a Ukrainian diplomat, carried out on 17 April 2021. The Russian police announced that the Ukrainian diplomat was arrested while in possession of Russian documents classified as military secret. Under the Vienna Accords, he enjoys diplomatic immunity and, even though he was caught red handed in the act of espionage, he must be (...)

Strikes against Israeli Mossad offices, a US military base and another Turkish military base were reported on 13, 14 and 15 April 2021 in the city of Erbil, the capital of Iraqi Kurdistan. For the first time, they were not executed with rockets, but with drones. The local press links the first attack to the confrontation between Israel and Iran and attributes the other two to a hitherto unknown group, identified as Awliyaa al-Dam (The Guardians of the Blood). For its part, the Iranian (...)

On 10 April 2021, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an hosted his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky at the Huber Villa in Istanbul. The Turkish secret service immediately began to recruit international jihadists, from the area they occupy in northwestern Syria, to transfer them to Ukraine. This is not the first time that Turkey has resorted to international jihadists; it recruited them in a similar way to be used in Libya and Azerbaijan. 150 soldiers of the Turkish regular army (...)

On 14 April 2021, President Biden announced the pullout of US troops from Afghanistan [1]. However, this is not the implementation of the plan promoted by his predecessor (withdrawing troops and stopping the ?endless war?). Moreover, Joe Biden never even mentioned abandoning the Rumsfeld / Cebrowski strategy. Defense Secretary Gen. Lloyd Austin said that the U.S. will continue to pay Afghan army and police salaries and is expected to be in charge of Air Force and Special Forces equipment. (...)

The Pentagon announced that two of its destroyers, the USS Roosevelt and the USS Donald Cook, were dispatched to the Black Sea as part of the Defender-Europe 21 exercises. Meanwhile five C-130J Hercules transport planes were announced to have arrived in Kiev from Stuttgart. For its part, Moscow also denounced (...)

Hello, folks. Thanks for coming over. Good afternoon, everyone. Earlier this week, I spoke with President Putin of Russia about the nature of our relationship ? the relationship between our two countries. And I was candid and respectful; the conversation was candid and respectful. Two great powers with significant responsibility for global stability. And President Putin and I have had a significant responsibility to steward that relationship. I take that responsibility very seriously, (...)

Today, we announced actions to hold the Russian Government to account for the SolarWinds intrusion, reports of bounties on U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan, and attempts to interfere in the 2020 U.S. elections. We have engaged Russian authorities to share our concerns about their actions and the steps we are taking in response. The President is signing a new Executive Order on Russia that will broaden the scope of our sanctions authorities. Under this new Executive Order, the U.S. Department (...)
