Former MEP, Patricia McKenna has accussed the EU Commission head, Barroso of illegal interference in Irish referendum, she said "its conveniently opportune that less than two weeks before Irish people vote on the Lisbon treaty the Commission announces that it proposes to give €15m in aid to help former Dell computer workers find new jobs. , Barroso is head of the EU Institution that will gain most power if the treaty is ratified, he should stay out of the debate and respect the existing EU treaties until such time as they are changed”. He is abusing his position and this it quite unacceptable in a supposedly free and democratic society.” read full story / add a comment

I would like to respond to a number of Sinn Féin driven articles, letters and texts printed in the North Belfast News last week that included spurious claims against the Republican Network for Unity (RNU). The RNU is an Irish political pressure group with organised branches nationwide. We are not a political party and are not constituted as such. RNU subscribe to the 1916 Proclamation and the attainment of a 32 County Democratic Socialist Republic. Our goal is to promote and maintain core republican values and achieve our objectives by strengthening partnerships with strategically allied organisations, including Republican political parties, trade Unions, socialist and ex-prisoner groups. read full story / add a comment ![]()

On Saturday, 29th of August, members of Sinn Féin’s college cumainn from all across Ireland gathered in the Party’s Ard Oifig, Baile Átha Cliath in order to plan and build for the coming college year. The day was a mix of teambuilding, presentations and workshops intended to help forge a common identity as college cumainn, build relationships and exchange ideas which would better equip republican students in each campus. Workshops on Education, Finance, Public relations, Campaigns and Recruitment were run on a collective basis by those present – sharing views and ideas across Ireland from Universities, ITs and Colleges. The Uladh Colleges Comhairle Ceantair gave a presentation to the university cumainn from the other three provinces on the model which they have developed during the last year – showing the advantages of efficient communication between third level campuses and the pooling of resources in a particular geographic area. read full story / add a comment ![]()

Every other political party except Fianna Fail has called for a ban on fur factory farms. Without Fianna Fail’s support there would be no fur factory farms in Ireland. There would be no fur factories in Ireland if Fianna Fail carried out the law Protest Fianna Fail due to their support of fur factory farms. Organised by AFAR and ALiberation. PANIC over Dog Breeding Regulations by those involved in Hunting and other blood sports. Apparently the blood sports fraternity encompassing shooters, fox hunters, hare coursers and Greyhound breeders are terrified of having their establishments checked by officials of the Dept of the Environment when the dog Breeding regulations are incorporated into legislation shortly.~The Hunting Association of Ireland can be heard saying the Minister is going to ‘hang hunting’. The AOHS would like to know what have these people got to hide. What have blood sports enthusiasts got hidden in their kennels? Why has panic been whipped up as a response to a simple bill that will make regulations to control Commercial Dog Breeding Establishments which are simply defined as any where that keeps five or more breeding female dogs. This will obviously include Hunt Kennels and others who breed dogs. Its simple! read full story / add a comment

Demonstrators arrested in the recent uprisings, particularly those in Kahrizak Prison have been gang-raped and the prison guards have put them under medieval tortures. Many of the detainees, female or male, have died in rape rooms as a result of being repeatedly raped, due to rupture of uterus or rectum and intestinal bleeding. Still others, in or out of prison, are suffering from the resulting physical and psychological traumas of these acts of violence. We know that the torture and raping of prisoners are not confined to Kahrizak and to the recent events. Executions and murder of prisoners, rape and torture in the Islamic regime’s prisons are as old the regime itself. read full story / add a comment

Dublin activists today took part in a march organised by the Dublin Port Workers Group, which have been locked in a bitter dispute with their employer Peel Ports Group. The dockers have held out for over seven weeks, and were forced to strike after their employer imposed force redundancies and introduced new contracts with pay cuts and worse conditions. Despite the company employing scabs from Britain, and a security firm made up of ex-SAS operatives, the communities of Irishtown, East Wall and Ringsend have stood by the dockers in support. The company also took a high court injunction preventing effective picketing. Dock workers from across Europe have sent messages of solidarity and after pledges of similar action, Rotterdam was shut down in support of the action in Dublin today. read full story / add a comment ![]()
