Anti G8 Activities13th-15th June: Republican Sinn Fein will be holding an Alternative to the G8 Summit, an Anti-Imperialist Forum, in the Conway Mill Belfast, on June 13, 14 and 15. A number of speakers from both a Republican as well as a unionist perspective will be there as well as speakers the academic world. The Forum runs from 6pm to 9pm on Thursday June 13, from 1pm-9pm June 14 and from 10am-6pm June 15 see website for more info: http://www.irish-solidarity.net/db3/ 15th June: The BIG march for a fairer world: Civil groups such as the trade unions, ICTU, Amnesty, Friends of the earth, IPSC have organised a response to the G8. Assemble 12 noon Custom House Square. Rally at Belfast City Hall. Rally ends at 2.00 p.m. following which there will be a number of events in the city focusing on different issues. Seeing 'Bloody Sunday' on UTV last night reminds us of one of the worst Crimes of The Troubles when 13 Civilians were killed and 14 injured by the British Army in Derry on January 30th, 1972. No British Officer or Soldier was ever charged over Bloody Sunday. 40 years on the fight for justice goes on. Bloody Sunday not forgotten. SIPTU have condemned the ‘sickening attack’ on a Derry community worker’s car. Sean McMonagle a well-known community activist, and who is a member of SIPTU, had his car attacked at his Rinmore Drive home, in the Creggan area of Derry on Wednesday night. Saturday 5th June saw a march in Derry to protest at the Israel's Massacre of Flotilla Aid Workers, and its continuing "Collective Punishment" of the people of Gaza illegal blockade. It ended with a rally The March was addressed by Roisin Barton (Raytheon-9 women), Marty Crockett (Derry Friends of Palestine) who drove an ambulance to Gaza last year and Eamon McCann (DAWC). read full story / add a comment

The 14 Raytheon accused are 9 women and 5 men, based in Derry, in the north of Ireland, who are facing criminal charges after they used Non Violent Direct Action to access the Raytheon Software plant in Derry, in an attempt to disarm the mainframe computer. Raytheon are the world's largest manufacturer of missiles and the world's fifth largest weapons manufacturer. Until they left in February 2010 (thanks to all the action taken against them), Raytheon's Derry software plant developed the firmware for transponders, targeting software and other crucial guidance system-related work for weapons. Their factories globally manufacture Tomahawk Cruise missiles, Sidewinder missiles, Hellfire missiles, the "Bunker Buster" bombs, the delivery systems for Cluster bombs, White Phosphate and Napalm. read full story / add a comment

On Tuesday's issue of the Derry Journal, the newspapers editor highlighted the city's 2013 bid to make Derry the Culture Capital of the North. The Troops Out Movement, which campaigns for British withdrawal from Ireland, held its annual Bloody Sunday Remembered meetings in the Midlands last week. The 1992 BBC film by Peter Taylor was shown and the main speaker was Cahil McElhinny whose brother Kevin was shot dead by British Soldiers on Bloody Sunday, 30th January 1972.
