The DUP are correct to state that commemoration of the hunger strikers and their brave sacrifice is incompatible with Ruairí Gildernew's membership of the support network for the British colonial police, Republican Sinn Féin have said.

A spokesman said: “The Gildernews are acting as cheerleaders for the self-same RUC which gaoled the Hunger Strikers. The presence of the Provos at such an event only serves to dishonour the Hunger Strikers and the Cause they held so dear.

“True Republicans will be honouring the sacrifice of the Hunger Strikers in Bundoran this Saturday. We do not seek to prolong English rule but to bring it to a permanent end.”
