Joe Higgins MEP for the Dublin Region, would like to invite you to participate in the meeting below which he is convening in response to the Government declaring that household water charges will be reintroduced. Green Party Environment Minister Gormley has stated that a general installation of water meters will begin this year in preparation. Water Charges would be just another stealth tax to inflict further burdens on ordinary working people in response to the crisis in Irish capitalism. Minister for Social Welfare Hanafin said that if the charges had not been abolished in 1996, each household could now be paying up to €700 each year. read full story / add a comment

While we all agonise about whether our Industry , Agriculture , and all Human activity and endeavour may be responsible for Climate Change
there is a theory that cosmic radiation could be responsible for inordinate cloud cover - both Global warming and cooling may be explained by the formation of cloud cover due to solar wind particles which gather about them clouds.

Cowen seems more beaten by the day. The easy clichéd sound bites gone. He appears hunched, shuffling; or frozen in fright like the deer in the head lamp, He has inherited a terrible legacy , but one which he contributed to its making in very substantial manner. The game is up Like Brown in the UK - he too is unlucky, unpopular, lingering in from day to day, never knowing the moment to go to the country. read full story / add a comment

Michael Feeney is becoming an M-MBE for organising a war park that is called, not surprisingly, a ‘peace’ park. It celebrates soldiers who helped put down India’s first fight for independence, and who fought and died in the British and US armies. It is a celebration of those who killed people struggling for their freedom against imperialism and colonialism.

The only qualification the killers meet is having been born in Ireland. Feeney's Member of the British Empire (MBE) medal also states, 'For God and the Empire.'

This is the story about how 5-6 full time activists, and 20 or so part time union activists succeeded in organising thousands of workers across 6 hospitals in Las Vegas, a city in the middle of a desert, with no history of union organising.

It is rare that you find out the nuts and bolts of how people bring about change on the ground, and there is a lot to think about in his talk. While Cork is a long way from Las Vegas, there are things here that we, as activists, need to learn about. read full story / add a comment
