Nonviolent direct resistance to the war is growing inside and outside the U.S. military. The 1700 arrests at the Republican Convention in New York City was a hight tide this year. The discipline and solidarity of the movement not to walk into a Bush teev trap was outstanding. Now is the time for solidarity! read full story / add a comment

Last night’s “Bring the Noise” march to Farmleigh
demonstrated two things. Firstly, many people really do care about the freedom of assembly and opinion and for a different kind of Europe. After a month of hate speech from the security forces and sections of the media, after riot police had been placed at our assembly point with instructions to prevent people demonstrating, after our friends had been arrested, harassed on the street, our venues raided by the police, it was not an easy choice to walk, with only our own bodies, between lines of police knowing that off in the wings were the riot squads, the army and all the other threats they have used against us. read full story / add a comment

Anti-war activist Eoin Rice was arrested today (Saturday 17th January) peacefully protesting on Shop Street, Galway, during the EU delegate's 'walkabout' after Friday's EU meeting. Eoin was subsequently beaten in police custody - with an injury to the back of his head and multiple bruising over his body. This caused by being shoved against a wall and hit with batons.
He was then taken in police custody to hospital, where he had a head X-Ray.
He has been released and is giving a press conference outside Mill Street Garda Station at 3.30 today.
Complaints have been lodged. read full story / add a comment

From about 5pm thursday evening a blockade was placed on the Council waste depot at Grangegorman on the north side of Dublin. This was to disrupt the evening rubbish collection in the city centre. More than eighty people took part.

I came down the Grangegorman Road about 4.30 this evening. As I passed the depot all was quiet so I went a further couple of hundred yards until I met between seven and ten people waiting at the corner of a side street. I only recognised a couple of them. A couple more seemed to be members of the media, one of them had a video camera. Someone else had a sack with some placards.

We waited there until close to 5pm, then began to make our way up toward the depot. As we arrived more people were also arriving, some in small groups and others on their own. Some of the people were from nearby houses. We began to walk around in a circle in front of the depot gate. The placards had words to the effect "How to defeat this tax" and had sp read full story / add a comment

Women from the Strike along with other women and men held a fantastic picket this week outside Mill St Garda station in Galway. The support for continued action on the streets against occupation was very visible and vocal. Passers by of all ages and walks of life stopped to listen to our speak-out from a megaphone, which we used to bring everyone anti-war, anti-occupation and anti-globalisation news from the city, from Ireland, from Evian and from Iraq itself... read full story / add a comment

Approximately 25.000 people took to the streets of Dublin today to call, yet again for the ending of the Irish governments support for the illegal and immoral American led war in the mid-east. The protest was attended by people from all walks of life and from all over the world. Music and dancing filled the air all day even during the speeches the sound of bongos singers and guitars could be heard all over town. read full story / add a comment
