To mark Palestinian Prisoners’ Day 2016 the Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign is honoured to present Palestinian-Israeli lawyer Aouda Zbidat from Addameer, the Palestinian Prisoner Support and Human Rights Association. Ms. Zbidat will speak on Wednesday 20th April in The Academy Plaza Hotel, 10-14 Findlater Place (off Cathal Brugha Street – map here), Dublin 1 at 7pm. "New research also indicates that the frequency and severity of violence forcing women to leave their homes could be worse than previously documented" SAFE Ireland warned that homeless figures and needs are being greatly under-estimated because over 4,000 women and children being accommodated on a yearly basis in emergency refuge accommodation are not being counted and recognised as being homeless. At the launch today of a new SAFE Ireland report The State We Are In, CEO Sharon O’Halloran stressed that women and children forced to leave violent homes are being caught in the cross-fire of the national housing crisis. She said that 37 services that participated in new housing research as part of The State We Are In are reporting that they have never seen things so bad for women and children. read full story / add a comment

The Minister for Agriculture has been urged not to end the suspension of timber felling at Castle Forbes Estate in County Longford until a full investigation has been undertaken. The suspension was initiated by the Forest Service on April 5, 2016 after a complaint was lodged by the environmental group Friends of the Irish Environment for General Felling Licences issued in January and February of this year. In today’s letter, the group alleges that neither of the two licenses granted required that work not take place during the bird nesting season from 1 May to 30 September. read full story / add a comment

The Bord Pleanala Oral Hearing for Indavers 240,000 tonne incinerator application at Ringaskiddy is due to commence in Carrigaline Court on Tuesday next, 19 April at 10.30pm. Previous hearings lasted 3 weeks, and a similar time is expected to be allocated to this hearing. read full story / add a comment

Shannonwatch and Veterans for Peace member Edward Horgan will appear in Ennis District Court tomorrow, Friday April 15th, to answer a charge that he entered a part of Shannon Airport to which persons were not permitted, contrary to airport byelaws. Dr Horgan was attempting to do what the authorities have repeatedly refused to do, which is to inspect US military aircraft in order to establish if they were in breach of international laws at Shannon. On April 18th 2015, Dr Horgan was on his way to a peace conference in London when he saw four US Hercules C-130 jets lined up just beyond the Aer Lingus plane he was about to board. Knowing that the Gardaí were almost certainly not going to search them or to inform the public of the nature of these plane's reasons for being at Shannon, he felt compelled to search them. read full story / add a comment

Big capital has constantly decreased its contribution to the state – creating a gap in the state’s coffers which is then filled by more and varied taxes on ordinary people – ultimately shrinking the very market big capital needs to sell its increased production of goods. read full story / add a comment

On 22 January the Financial Times reported that Goldman Sachs, Wall Street, was donating £500,000 towards the anti-Brexit campaign in Britain. This is the same Goldman Sachs as is behind the threatened Tyrrelstown evictions in Dublin. read full story / add a comment

Recently David Gerstman of the Tower Blog (actually called “The Israel Project’s The Tower blog”) attacked the entire liberal arts Oberlin campus in Ohio as being lax on anti-Semitism because he doesn’t like what “one” of the college’s assistant professors wrote on her own personal face book page. Ironically Joy Karega, the alleged anti-Semite, was not really criticizing Jews in general, per se, but mostly what can be defined as some dirty politics of the State of Israel that is terrorist in nature. But conflating criticism of Zionists as supposed to mean anti-Semitism in general is what many propagandists are deliberately trying to d0—confuse various forms of debate in order to create a freeze on any negative criticism of the Zionist project in Israel as State for Jews or their Zionist influence here in America. read full story / add a comment

This article which appeared in the Southern Star was reposted by Shell To Sea and is now reposted by Indymedia because it recounts the plunder of our fishing resources by foreign countries and how just like our Oil and Gas resources, these were given away by our own politicians. These politicians are the direct ideological descendants of the right wing counter-revolutionaries who completely over turned the ideals of 1916 and have ruled this country ever since. We are meeting in Massimo this Friday. We have chosen Massimo as the venue this time round because there is more space there. Anyone with an interest in cycling is welcome. It's a good opportunity to meet like-minded people while enjoying a pint and some nice food after work on a Friday. Today campaigners of the Robin Hood Tax Campaign presented a cheque for €1.8bn at Leinster House in Dublin. It represents the amount of revenue a Financial Transaction Tax (FTT) could raise over the 5 year lifespan of the next Government. Bord Pleanala have refused a request by CHASE for an extension to the Oral Hearing date for Indavers Ringaskiddy incinerator application and confirmed that the Oral Hearing will start on 19 April at Carrigaline Court Hotel at 10.30am, citing 12 July 2016 as deadline date under Strategic Infrastructure Process. CHASE wrote to An Bord Pleanala following receipt of registered letters on 31 March/1st April advising of the hearing date, leaving just 12 working days preparation for the hearing. Previous hearings lasted 3 weeks. Bord Pleanala received over 220 submissions objecting to the proposal, each of which was accompanied by a payment of 50Euro. Objections were made by all 4 TD’s for the South Central area, including Defence Minister Simon Coveney, Fine Fail Party Leader Micheal Martin, Michael McGrath (FF) and newly elected Sinn Fein TD Donnchadh O’Laoghaire. read full story / add a comment
