You don't have to be Harry Houdini to get away from the clutches of the cops at the Rossport protests, since it seems their hearts are not in the role of protesting Shell shareholders' interests as much as they once were. The Ambassador apologised on behalf of the Israeli Government for the assault and injury caused by Israeli soldiers to the two peace workers in Bil'in last April. Yesterday evening a rippling realisation which may yet become a tidal wave of emotions hit the copy editors of almost all commercial news entities on this continent. Editors of both newspapers and television news programs had to make a very quick decision as to how they would report the naming of Kate Mc Cann as a formal suspect in the case of her daughter's disappearance & then then subsequent naming of her husband. For this has never a run of the mill child abduction case. British commerical media raised an award fund of 2 million pounds sterling whilst the length & breadth of Europe's tourist destinations saw her photo displayed on posters with the phrase "look into my eyes" more often than not written in English. Her case was linked by her parents and the band of loyal followers who charted their unprecedented campaign to one other case of a disappeared child in Spain whilst sighting of the Mc Cann infant were made & investigated from Morrocco to Spain, Malta to Portugal. read full story / add a comment

The Irish Times this Morning 08/09/09 features headlines regarding Eamon Ryan's 'Signal' that the Green Party may be supporting the Referendum on the EU proposed for this country in 2008. The paper's Front page states that Minister Ryan believes that the 'accrued benefits' of EU membership signal a change in attitude by the Greens toward their EU policy. This is media manipulation of the highest order which accomplishes two things:- 1. It assures investors in Corporate Europe that the Greens are 'onside'. 2.It is part of a campaign instigated by Dick Roche TD, who assumes responsibility for both selling the public and manistream media the benefits of EU expansion and corporatism. read full story / add a comment

Naomi Klein has written a new book examining what she calls "the shock doctrine" which based on Friedman's economic theories has seen Globalised Capitalism built on successive "shocks" to societies and states. She likens the shock approach to market changes and cut government spending to interrogation techniques developed and still used by the CIA in the late 1940's for individuals. As part of the launch, "The Guardian" has a short movie clip by Alfonso Cuaran & Klein ff just under 6 minutes duration which brings you through it quite neatly http://books.guardian.co.uk/video/2007/sep/07/naomiklein read full story / add a comment

A small victory, part of the "Patriot" Act has been declared unconstitutional. Now the FBI etc will have to get a court order before they can secretly obtain records from ISPs. A federal judge struck down parts of the revised USA Patriot Act on Thursday, saying investigators must have a court's approval before they can order Internet providers to turn over records without telling customers. U.S. District Judge Victor Marrero said the government orders must be subject to meaningful judicial review and that the recently rewritten Patriot Act "offends the fundamental constitutional principles of checks and balances and separation of powers." read full story / add a comment

Micheál Ó Seighin wrote a long article for An Phoblacht this week. His continuing analyses of the controversial Shell scheme to install a polluting refinery fed by a high-pressure production pipeline in the previously peaceful and serene Mayo countryside have been an enormously useful resource for Republicans and others. Here he takes stock of the current situation: read full story / add a comment
