Dari Jeyran, an Iranian is a women’s and political rights activist recently arrived from Iran. She has been involved in the struggles against the government there. She has been involved in solidarity work with trade unionists and students and also campaigned for prisoner’s rights. I spent about 10 years involved in voluntary community initiatives like local publishing, charity concerts, youth concerts. My motivation at that time was intensely political and leftist. I believed that the economy was a machine run by the merciless logic of profit and that any involvement in it meant unacceptable compromise. Therefore, my own political principles meant that I marginalised myself from any formal involvement with it. On the sidelines, from my Comfortable And Quite Elevated Chair of Ideological Analysis, it was crystal clear to me that Community Development was just a con-job. It was a ploy by The Elite to sap the revolutionary vigour of the people and co-opt potential revolutionaries. read full story / add a comment

Reports are coming of a large fire at the Shell Refinery Site at Bellanaboy, Erris County Mayo. It appears that an area where the original pipeline route was welded without permission in 2005 has caught fire. Large quantities of building materials, discarded plastic pipe, netting and rubber mats were piled up on the bog, and it is reported that these have caught fire. read full story / add a comment
