Today we want to highlight thise victims who never made it to the news, those victims who remain shamefully ignored because they were peasants, workers, poor or belonged to ethnic minorities. We are showing in this demonstration the names and photos of only some, but who are representative of the 70,000 people murdered for political reasons in Colombia since the late 1980's. Our emphasis is, however, placed in the process of building a sustainable peace in Colombia which will require a huge effort from parties to the conflict. We urgently require some form of Humanitarian Agreement to humanise the war and to alleviate the suffering of the civilian victims. Also, we urge the actors in the conflict to take the necessary steps to negociate a political solution to the conflict that addresses its origins and causes. read full story / add a comment

From the Newswire: An original first-hand report of a solidarity vigil that took place on Saturday 1st in Drimnagh to commemorate the deaths of two Polish men who were attacked and killed the previous Saturday. It has been noted that this is just one of the most recent and most tragic examples of anti-Polish racism. Other commentators have pointed out such aggression is often directed towards anyone who is different and that it's not just nationality or difference in race that motivates such violence. All agree that such aggression should not be tolerated. read full story / add a comment

"On an eight day intercultural, fact-finding trip to Palestine," http://www.indymedia.ie/article/86470 and participating in the weekly Bil'in protest last Friday, three IPSC activists in a group of ten Irish concerned citizens who journey up from Jerusalem witnessed the brutal dispersal of the peaceful marchers by the Israeli Occupation Forces through the indiscriminate firing of rubber bullets and physical assault which continued all around us as our group was corralled without rhyme, reason or explanation by the IOF. Even so, thanking the good lord for small mercies, it was small potatoes in comparison to the egregious violence visited on previous Bil'in protests as evidenced in the DVD documentary we saw later. read full story / add a comment

An analysis of EU Commissioner's Margot Wallstrom's involvement in two parallel but contradictory processes - as head of the Commission's 'Plan D for Dialogue, Deabte & Democracy' allegedly aimed at involving citizens in the defining of Europe's future, which was set up in the aftermath of the 2005 rejection of the EU Constitution in France and Holland - while at the same time she played a little reported but significant role in the Amato Group - a self-selected group of 16 of the EU's top political elite who met to to redraft - behind closed doors, and with funding from a leading European multinational - the rejected Constitution text and effectively re-packaged it as what was to become known as the Lisbon Treaty, a document which every member state in the EU, bar Ireland, is being denied a popular say on. Commissioner Wallstrom was in Dublin last Thursday to speak at the National Forum on Europe. read full story / add a comment

This being a leap year, anyone who wants to jump the broom and get the Alpha male should have proposed last night... Today, was the annual (instituted in 1947) Filene's 'Running of the Brides' . Thousands of young brides go haywire trying to buy a wedding gown in the bargain basement of a huge Department store. It's a blood sport where the winners are those that can squeeze their figures into a knock-down Vera Wang or some such label. read full story / add a comment

Asqar Karimi of the Worker-communist Party of Iran appeals for solidarity to isolate the Iranian Dictatorship and to to help the Iranian People to overthrow this brutal regime. Full text at the link. To the people of the world! To trade unions, student unions, women’s rights organisations! 3 Labour activists were flogged in Sanandaj and 8 others are to be flogged for taking part in a May Day rally! The Islamic Republic has taken another step against the working class and all the people in Iran. Their aim is to silence, crush and dehumanize. Its what the slave driver did 20 centuries ago. This time, however, they are dealing with a working class that has no intention of submitting; a working class whose struggles and leaders are known to the whole world. ·Official figures say, in the past 10 months,1 million women have been arrested, fined and/or flogged for not being dressed as demanded by the Islamic government and for courtship with the opposite sex; read full story / add a comment

It does what it says on the tin. A simplistic plot. A damsel in distress must be rescued by a hero against impossible odds. A black and white vision of good and evil. BUT WHAT EVIL! Like no other movie I have ever seen, perhaps Schindler's List, this movie demonstrates the evil of ethnic cleansing, tyranny and injustice that the West would like to pretend does not exist. Nobody can see this movie and not be changed, outraged and forced to do something for the people of Burma and other peoples oppressed through out the world. read full story / add a comment
