Peter Symonds analyses the latest moves by Bush & his cabal in the preparations for war against Iran. In particular Peter looks at the movements of senior US military officers. Full text at link. The visit by US Joint Chiefs of Staff chairman Admiral Mike Mullen to Israel yesterday is one more indication that the two countries are actively discussing a military strike on Iran. Mullen’s trip followed news that the Israeli air force carried out a major exercise earlier this month involving 100 fighter jets, backed by midair fuel tankers and rescue helicopters, flying some 1,500 kilometres westward over the Mediterranean Sea—roughly the same distance as eastward from Israel to Iran’s nuclear facilities. read full story / add a comment ![]()

This Friday, the 4th of July marks the start of a week of actions against Lionbridge, a multinational translation and software development company in support of the right of workers to organise in trade unions. Groups of workers from Ireland, Poland, Denmark, Spain, America and elsewhere will hold pickets outside the offices of Lionbridge to mark the start of a case taken against the company in Poland by Jakub G. Jakub has been working for the company for almost 8 years and received several promotions before becoming active as a trade-union organizer. Shortly after a union was formed in Warsaw he was fired by Lionbridge. To get around the Polish law which prohibits the sacking of union representatives without good cause, the bosses said that Jakob had leaked confidential company information to an internet website. read full story / add a comment

As you may be aware the Galway Alliance Against War has a new initiative aimed at instigating an inspection process for aircraft believed to be involved in the unjustifiable and illegal process of the' renditioning' of unconvicted and uncharged people who are 'suspected' of being terrorists. As part of this initiative the recruitment process involves signing a letter which declares that the signatory is opposed to the practice of renditions and will undertake to prevent the practice by supporting a process of inspections of the suspected aircraft. The text of the letter and the current signatories may be read here- http://www.indymedia.ie/article/88150 read full story / add a comment

This is a summary of the so-called 'War on Terror'. It is a poem that I began writing in Bosnia in the summer of 2005 and still go back to to add the odd word, phrase, comma, etc, now and again. I'm presenting it here (with a small number of notes at the end) to try to encourage more from the artistic community in Ireland in denouncing the war(s), but also because its contents are still relevant (I had hoped that it would have been out of date before I go to finish it). read full story / add a comment ![]()

The MEK (The People's Mujahedin of Iran) held a meeting in Paris on Saturday. The MEK who, according to a France24 journalist, usually pay Afghani 'extras' by the day to boost numbers, bussed in Polish students, who were given a trip to Paris for €6, in order that they would attend the MEK propaganda rally. Some students went inside while others enjoyed lying around in Paris. A report published by Human Rights Watch denounced the MEK for poor treatment of dissident members in its camps in Iraq. read full story / add a comment ![]()

Zimbabweans today flocked to the polls. Not to exercise a choice - for there was none. But to make damn sure that after the secret ballot they had a bloody red finger. No bloody red finger tonight means no democratic duty done today. When the flock is shepherded by wolves it seems it prefers a bloody red finger to whatever else is on offer. Tomorrow Dr Richard Mugabe will be sworn in as President of Zimbabe. As one of the most articulate and poshest voices in African post-colonial history he will not feel the need to say fuck when he is sworn in. He will not besmirch democracy by cursing during his oath. read full story / add a comment ![]()

The young sow struggled for hours in the snare until a local lady became aware of her plight. When she contacted Badgerwatch it was late Saturday afternoon. The snare had pulled so tight that it had become embedded in the animal’s lower abdomen and across the groin areas. Loose earth in the vicinity demonstrated her struggle for freedom.. To add to her misery, the snare had actually been set on a ditch. The local conservation ranger was notified but he did not attend. read full story / add a comment

A bit of rain didn't stop thousands from taking to the streets of Dublin to celebrate what is now a fixture in the Irish calendar and to campaign for Marraige Equality for same sex relationships. This year saw the 25th anniversary and homage was paid to the years of campaigning and how far Irish society has come. However there was a recognition that not all was won and the struggle for full equality still goes on. read full story / add a comment
