Iranian officials insist that force's role in the north is defensive but its presence will exacerbate the concerns of the US and especially the Arab world that military intervention in Iraq will lead to a permanent disintegration of the country. Through inserting a proxy force, Iran is underlining that it cannot be ignored in future discussions over Iraq's make-up. http://news.ft.com/servlet/ContentServer?pagename=FT.com/StoryFT/FullStory&c=StoryFT&cid=1045510848273&p=1012571727088 read full story / add a comment

The government of the US (with support from Great Britain and Australia) is leading the charge for war against Iraq. These three governments have helped East Timor’s independence since 1999 but from 1975 until 1999 they supported the brutal Indonesian military occupation of this country, supplying weapons and training to the Indonesian army to better enable it to kill and torture the East Timorese people. There is no moral principle in their current desire to overthrow Saddam Hussein read full story / add a comment

An article in The Irish Times (Wed. Nov. 6th) reports that for the first time Ireland will be taking part in a Nato Summit. The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr Cowen will head a 'high-level' delegation to the summit which takes place in Prague on the 20th and 21st of November. The last NATO Summit was held in Washington during 1999, this time around, discussions are to be based around 'a military response to terrrorism'. No doubt this involves fine tuning the plans to bomb, invade and then take over Iraq. With all permanent members of the United Nations security council expected to pass plans later this week to allow a U.S. led attack on Iraq the prospect of war looks imminent. In light of unfolding events and to highlight Irelands participation a protest will be held in Sligo on Thurs 21st of Nov. to coincide with the NATO summit read full story / add a comment

I can't recommend this site too highly. It contains EVERY article re 9/11 (all from "mainstream media") that casts doubt about the "official story" re 9/11. This summary & articles is not the most shocking, but interesting: About American Airlines stock being sold short BEFORE 9/11 by the bank once headed by the man who became CIA chief. read full story / add a comment

President Bush's concern over Iraq's weapons of mass destruction is a pretext for a global strategy of pre-emptive attack. He and his advisers intend to establish precedents with Iraq that can be used against other states that stand out against US global control. The US, he says, cannot allow anyone the capacity to attack it, but the country will keep its own power to destroy all-comers. read full story / add a comment

Those of you aware of the beauty and serenity to be found on our national monument the Hill of Tara will be concerned to learn that the noise pollution there is will increase considerably if the proposed M3 Clonee/North of Kells Motorway goes ahead. As it is the traffic passing on the existing Navan - Dublin road is quite audible from many of Tara's sacred sites. Apparently, the proposed M3 will pass within TWO MILES of serene Tara. read full story / add a comment

A computer game called Kill Yourself a Gypsy appeared in early 2000. It began to circulate not long after a wall was built in Maticni Street, in the Czech town of Usti nad Labem. The wall was built to separate Roma (Gypiesy) from their "white" Czech neighbours. In the game the player has to shoot at Gypsies who appear on the screen while adding blocks to the wall. The game was of a piece with the casual racism against Roma that pervades the post-communist Czech Republic. read full story / add a comment |
