Today's papers suggest 'Bertie it is time to go' and would Mary Harney go with him. Also included is Professor Drumm and the bureaucrats in the HSE. Many years ago, women of Ireland marched in their thousands, outraged against the inequality they endured of not having the right of freedom to choose Abortion, Contraceptives, to work when married. I ask where are the liberals now. read full story / add a comment

The circus continues in relation to Bertie's cash lodgements and handouts - I will return to this in a minute.... But first I would like to point out the cutbacks in Sligo Hospital as reported today and as Drumm, the new God to Health said 'there are new limits now'. read full story / add a comment

I came back today from work, I passed through Town. I turned on the radio to listen to Drive Time by Mary Wilson. I could not believe what I was hearing - Beverely Flynn speaking about the formation of a new Government and her shopping basket for the people of Mayo. For many people who do not read Private Eye - it is just the magazine that is always being sued. This is because the only time the public ever hears about it is when the newspapers report that a libel writ has been issued or an out of court settlement has been reached. The impression is therefore widespread that Private Eye is constantly being bombarded with writs and at any moment it would go out of business as a result (1979: Goldenballs book Richard Ingrams)............ read full story / add a comment

We need TV naturally to embrace news and what is happening around us. We also need radio but Liveline this week was a complete sham. Joe with the ego (Bottler)and Williams (the great man of fiction on Irish Gangland). We all know what happened when a prisoner phoned from a cell in Portlaoise. I personally believe RTE have broken the law on this occasion. How can we have a prisoner in Portlaoise taking the airways and making threats. read full story / add a comment

I always had an interest in Irish History and many summers ago I spent time travelling around Ireland viewing old graveyards. I recall being below in West Cork and old farmer brought me to view three unmarked graves on his land. They were three old IRA men shot by the Tans in 1921. The farmer had written their names on three pieces of wood. I walked through Letterfrack and I wondered if the rumours were true of the unmarked graves of little children. These children most likely died violently at the hands of Church and State. Some old men in small towns told me that if the secrets were unfolded, that Ireland was awash with babies left in bogs, and lakes. He said they not only drowned pups at that time, they drowned little children too. That men spoke to me in West Mayo. read full story / add a comment

The other day I received through my door a booklet on Fine Gael's Lucinda Creighton. The name rang a bell for one main reason. A lady of 29 years facing eviction last October and three emails I sent to Lucinda Creighton. Eventually with my partner Michelle and the assistance of Ruari Quinn we got an extension for this woman of several months. I ask where is this woman's humanity towards the vulnerable people, she is supposed to represent in Dublin 4. read full story / add a comment

My dream began the other night when Joe Duffy - the legend, was on his way out of RTE studios - he said to Derek - I don't envy you Derek, believe me. This f........ insect has caused me and my Lifeline staff nightmares since last March. As we speak the Stroker Fahy is preparing for prison on Tuesday. His 97 year old mother is taking up residence in Galway with a far out cousin of Berties. Does anybody out there remember the Stroker McSweeney? This guy came in from America two years ago under Government approval - as Chief Advisor of Science and Environment to the Government. He turned out to be a Walter Mitty - the phd was created by no less than Podge and Rodge. This man was let go - I ask - Why was he not charged with Corruption too? read full story / add a comment

Brian Cowen once said that Bertie Ahern was man disinterested in material wealth; a Man of the People - a pint of Bass - and a chat with the Dublin people in relation to how the Dublin people are doing in the Championship. The last Socialist, he called himself but now we all know, to the contrary of our lives and our civil liberties, that this is not the case. read full story / add a comment

Article 12 of the UN International Covenant on Economics, Social and Cultural Rights (ICESCR) provides the right of everyone to the enjoyment of the highest attainable standards of mental health. This right is the central human dignity of the person. Principles for the protection of persons with mental health - the MI principles were adopted by the UN in 1991 and provide standards in relation to informed consent of treatment. Protection of confidentiality standards - the rights of people in mental health facilities and the provision of resources. This principle is the right of everyone without of exception to the best available mental health care. I ask the question tonight - with our economy alledgedly booming - why is our suicide crisis representative of such a shambles particularly in area of mental health care? read full story / add a comment

In the last number of years we have heard about Gardai indiscipline and Gardai brutality in our country. The Morris Tribunal in Donegal states that is fact. But tonight let us focus on prison in-discipline and prison collusion of hatred within the system. The 17 years I worked with Simon gives rise to meeting a variety of people. They were mostly homeless due to a compulsory overtime system. This system was overturned in the High Court in the 1980's but it was too late for hundreds of officers who suffered from depression and additcton to alcohol within the System. Tonight I give their story. read full story / add a comment

This evening I was listening to Minister Michael McDowell on Radio 1 at 5 O'Clock in relation to the murder of the young innocent man last night. This 'Dying Wasp' has an amazing lifespan. McDowell spoke of a research committee on how to tackle organised crime. My vision for 2007 is we will revisit 'Who framed Roger Rabbit?'. You see Bertie the half Jack Russell and Kerry Blue (what a mix?) will get rid of the rabbit subtly with some deviance thrown in........According to today's paper's he is making overtures to Joe Costelloe. If the numbers add up in June there could be an FF/Labour coalition.......Now what about McDowell. Let' us get real here. Can you see a Poodle from Ranelagh squaring up to a half Jack Russell and Kerry Blue seasoned Northsider......I don't think so...... read full story / add a comment

IRISH PRISONS AND HUMANITY Open Letter to: Governor John Lonergan. Mr. Lonergan, You became Governor of Mountjoy Prison in the 1983. You replaced Paddy McFadden from Belmullet in Co. Mayo. Tipperary. You are a former bus conductor. You have a passion for hurling and your known to have the odd flutter on ‘Shergar’. Sometime ago, retired Justice Kinlan wrote a damning report on our prisons. McDowell, Minister for Justice Equality and Law Reform, went into a 'huff'. He accused Justice Kinlan of being out to get him. The question remains:- A young man was brutally murdered in a cell while five prisoners looked on. Six people sharing one cell.....this had to end in disaster at some stage. read full story / add a comment
