Supposed ‘hard fight’ to secure guarantees on lisbon Treaty: a clever tactic to mislead says McKenna
national / eu / press release Monday June 22, 2009 12:26 by O. O'C
Not one single word of the lisbon Treaty will be altered by these guarantees, which is why they do not need to be ratified by the National Parliaments of the 27 Member States. The so called ‘legal guarantees’ are nothing more than an interpretation by EU Heads of State as to what they think the lisbon Treaty means. However, if the lisbon Treaty comes into force, it will be the EU Court of Justice in Luxembourg which will interpret lisbon. The EU Court is the only body authorised under the European Treaties to interpret the Treaties themselves and decide how they should be applied. The political decision and agreement of a particular group of EU Prime Ministers and Presidents, which is what we are being presented with, cannot and will not decide what lisbon means. read full story / add a comment

reform.ie is a an internet-based political platform that advocates the reform of local government in Ireland and the continuing reform of the European Union with Ireland at its core. We believe that these objectives are shared by a large proportion of the Irish electorate and we aim to provide a forum for debate and to register this. We hope to enlist the support of candidates who will pledge to sponsor the reforms so urgently required if elected. We also hope to secure the commitment of candidates, both local and European, to propose and deliver the reforms so urgently required if elected. reform.ie is not linked to any existing political party or movement in Ireland or elsewhere, nor are we funded by any political or economic entity read full story / add a comment

The National Chairperson of the 32 County Sovereignty Movement Francie Mackey has again highlighted and praised the efforts of all republican , socialist and progressive groups for their contribution to the temporary defeat of the EU Treaty in last Years referendum . However the apparent refusal of the national and intrnational capitalist elites to accept that popular decision and the increasing likelihood of their pushing ahead with a second referendum on the same Treaty in the upcoming year leaves all of us who opposed the Treaty on the grounds of national sovereignty , neutrality and principled socialist concerns with a common purpose . How best to defend Irish democracy and sovereignty from the undemocratic and arrogant mindsets of the powerful who regard such notions as an obstacle to their preferred political , economic and military order ? read full story / add a comment

The last vestiges of Fianna Fail and this ramshackle coalition government pretense of "listening" to the people and protecting the vital interest of the Irish people and the sovereignty of our country have finally been exposed. national / rights, freedoms and repression / press release Tuesday October 21, 2008 23:30 by Marxism 2008 team
2008 has seen a crisis of capitalism not seen since the 1930’s. The workings of the market, once universally worshipped, have imploded and are wrecking people’s lives across the globe. Alongside this, the so called “war on terror” pursued by the same market fundamentalists, has brought death and havoc in Iraq and now, in Afghanistan, it threatens to spill over to new and deadlier frontiers. Never has it been so important to develop alternatives to the madness of the system. read full story / add a comment
national / eu / press release Monday September 01, 2008 22:57 by O. O'C.
The Oireachtas voted the Commission over €5 million to enable it do its job of informing citizens what the lisbon referendum was about. Rarely can public money have been spent to such ill effect. The Commission spent €2.7 on media advertising. It paid An Post €1 million to deliver 2.2 million information handbooks to households. In the circumstances it was a democratic miracle that the majority of Irish voters rejected the proposal to amend the Irish Constitution. If the Commission had done the job it was statutorily required to do, the No-side majority would almost certainly have been much larger, for people would have learned of the constitutional revolution which lisbon proposed, instead of being kept in ignorance of it. read full story / add a comment |
