galway / housing / event notice Saturday October 18, 2014 - 21:14 by Radical Routes
Radical Routes begin an all-island speaking tour at the end of this month to people to set up their own co-ops. They are presenting this as a way out of both the precarious rental market and the trap of long-term mortgage debt.

The tour will draw on their experience where the Radical Routes network has over 35 member co-ops. They say that "While the legal and financial structures relevant to setting up a co-op are different in the UK and Ireland, the experience learned from establishing these projects in the UK is valuable to anyone in Ireland considering setting up a co-operative and taking control of their own housing situation."

16:30-17:30, Saturday 1st Nov, Galway Bay Hotel, Galway. -The latter time is to accomodate Water Charges protest. ... read full story / add a comment

If you are feeling strong this morning Rabble published a must read article yesterday on the 796 dead children found in a mass grave at the St.Mary’s Mother and Baby Home, Tuam. They ranged from 2 days (Thomas Duffy) to 9 years (Sheila Tuohy) old. ... read full story / add a comment

The August GAAW Bulletin will be a rather truncated edition as we bring to your attention forthcoming activities by Galway’s local peace group.

The U.S. military hub at Shannon airport remains our principal focus. It is through here that Washington ferries its soldiers and its weaponry to kill innocent people in far off lands. This makes us direct accomplices to mass murder.

Occupy Galway anniversary assembly disrupted by Gardai: Yesterday marked the 1st anniversary of the establishment of the Occupy movement in Galway. Between the Lisbrook house refugee eviction protest, the hearing of a spurious courtcase against two occupiers for "chalking", a subsequent spontaneous "chalking" reunion in the square and some heavy handed police action, it was not uneventful! ;-) ... read full story / add a comment
