The Philadelphia Gay Pride Parade of 2014 had 173 separate groups marching in it this year. The Vets For Peace group was number 26 and my church group, FUMCOG, was around 50 or so.

Governor Corbett was all set to address some nice, quiet, dutiful students who would sit still and would respectfully listen while he took credit for the performance of Philadelphia's schools. This is an urgent warning that the country?s big-corporate elite are about to try to push something called ?Fast Track? Trade Promotion Authority through Congress, in preparation for pushing through the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) corporate ?investor rights? agreement. (Note that I did not write ?trade agreement? because most of TPP is something else entirely.) People need to ?get it? about just how dangerous this is. Fast Track and the current TPP ? as it appears to be negotiated ? should be as much of an electoral test for progressives as Social Security is. Good piece with short video from Spocko. Six people are dead and 14 injured after a building undergoing demolition fell onto a Salvation Army thrift store at 22nd and Market streets here on June 5. A 30-foot-high wall of heavy bricks fell through the busy main street storefront?s roof, subsequently causing the floor, the store?s contents, customers and staff to collapse into the basement.

?Shorty? ? known to courts and counsel as James Denns ? has been on Death Row for over 20 years. Citing the 1973 Supreme Court case, Brady v. Maryland, a federal judge in Philadelphia last month threw out his murder conviction and death sentence. U.S. judge Anita Brody wrote, of ?Shorty?, he ?was wrongly convicted of murder, and sentenced to die for crime which, in all probability, he did not commit.?
