?Occupy LA supports in principle a General Strike on May 1, 2012, for migrant rights, jobs for all, a moratorium on foreclosures, and peace ? and to recognize housing, education and health care as human rights, and calls for the building of a broad coalition to make that a reality.?
Also, May Day will be commemorated at Elmwood Park from 2:30 to 4:00. Transportation from the Friends Center at Cherry St will be provided. Further details at PRAWNWorks.net.

Tue Apr 17, 2012 06:09 The event marked 40 years of solitary confinement for Herman Wallace and Albert Woodfox of the Angola 3, by exploring the expansion and overuse of solitary confinement, mobilizing support for the Amnesty International Petition to remove Wallace and Woodfox from solitary confinement (being hand delivered to LA Governor Bobby Jindal on Tuesday, April 17) and support for the California Hunger Strikers.
The video features solidarity photos from Philadelphia, where the first experiment in solitary confinement in the United States began.

The Congressional Progressive Caucus actually has a good proposal on the table, but the chattering class and the press corps are fixated on Representative Ryan's plan, which doesn't meet any criteria of reasonableness or rationality. But it does meet the criteria of "austerity," the idea that addressing the "debt crisis" takes precedence over all other possible priorities. What is to be done? Fortunately, grassroots organizers have some ideas and are gearing up to act. |
