Chris Strafford writes on how the Iranian people face a double danger: the possibility of a Bloodbath being launched by the Theocracy and threats of War and Sanctions from US Imperialism. Further sanctions are being put in place, and Obama is holding back Israel for the time being, but has been promising “decisive action” if Iran does not halt all uranium enrichment. One Israeli diplomat was quoted in The Guardian as saying, “Obama has convinced us that it’s worth trying the sanctions, at least for a few months” (January 3). The imperialists seem to be moving towards military aggression this year - Washington has now dismissed the validity of the intelligence estimate which concluded that Iran was no longer trying to acquire nuclear weapons. read full story / add a comment

Report by Grainne V: On December 31st 2009, 18 people gathered together on Scarriff Bridge to remember the over 1,400 Palestinians in Gaza who were killed by the Israeli Army last year and to stand in solidarity with the survivors of that attack, cynically named 'Operation Cast Lead'. We were one of many groups nationwide who met on bridges around the country at the same time as 1,400 internationals attempted to cross into Gaza through the Rafah crossing from Egypt bringing much-needed aid and solidarity. read full story / add a comment

The Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC) has received word from the Irish participants on the Viva Palestina aid convoy that they crossed the border at Rafah and arrived in Gaza shortly after 7pm (Irish time). This is exactly one month after the convoy set off on its journey and despite concerted efforts by Egypt to obstruct its progress. read full story / add a comment

At Dawn today, some 35 to 40 Israeli Occupation Forces in 6 jeeps and a troop carrier raided the home of Rani Ayub in the West Bank village of Bil'in: there were no arrests as Rani was arrested four weeks ago in his home and has been held, incommunicado, since then in the notorious Mascobia (Russian Compound) police/interrogation center in West Jerusalem with no family visits, access to lawyers or even a charge. Iyad Burnat, head of Bil'in's Popular Committee say's the occupation soldiers were on a trawling exercise, seeking documentation and Rani Ayub's mobile phone. read full story / add a comment

These are the contents of two emails from Alice Howard of Viva Palestina 6:50am UK, Wednesday January 06, 2010 James Jordan, Sky News Online Controversial MP George Galloway has been involved in scuffles with Egyptian police as a group of pro-Palestinian activists tried to get a relief convoy into the Gaza Strip. According to medics 55 people were injured after the 520 activists broke down the gate at the port in El-Arish to protest against an Egyptian decision to ship some of the goods through Israel. In the past hour, the Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC) received the following urgent updates from the port of Al-Arish in Egypt, where the Gaza aid convoy, which includes several Irish people and three Irish vehicles, is currently surrounded by riot police. It is unclear how the situation will unfold, though the convoy was meant to travel into Gaza tomorrow, with its much-needed humanitarian aid. The first report is by text from Tyrone man John Hurson. Comments by the Minister for Justice Dermot Ahern that the annual security bill at Shannon for US military traffic is justified (Irish Examiner, 4 Jan) shows scant regard for the lives or human rights of the people of Iraq and Afghanistan. The bill of more than 3 million euro a year is spent facilitating occupying forces that cause ongoing fear, suffering and violent civilian death in both countries.
