The oppressive fascist Turkish regime attempted to eliminate the Kurdish population more than decades now. In 1938, at Dersim an estimated seventy thousand children and elderly men and women were killed. Since 1984, more than forty thousand people have lost their lives due to the Kurdish conflict in Turkey. Once again, the discredited Parades Commission has permitted an unwelcome sectarian parade to pass through the Greater Ardoyne community to then board a bus at the rear of Holy Cross Church, to travel to Derry. GARC feel it is necessary to inform the wider public that this parade has nothing to do with the Protestant religion, heritage or culture. So those who insist on this act of provocation need to justify why? read full story / add a comment ![]()

Yesterday at about 2.30pm Shell began to lower "Jack - 1" - one of two survey barges currently in Sruth Fhada Chonn estuary SAC (Special Area of Protection) - in order to tug it to another part of the estuary. The Rossport Solidarity Camp was ready and willing to claim free passage of the public estuary and in the process upset the operation. Over a dozen Shell security boats and two Garda RIBS couldn't keep the 6 kaykers out, with two of them reaching the moving barge after an hour and a half of chase. read full story / add a comment

The Irish Climate Camp will take place this year at Victoria Bridge, County Tyrone, from the 12th to the 16th of August. The camp is taking place in support of the local community and their opposition to the proposed new A5 – a project that will cost a lot of money, a lot of energy (carbon emissions) and really makes no logical sense since vehicle numbers using that route have decreased considerably over recent years. Climate camp Ireland is a group of individuals that believe in taking direct action to prepare for and mitigate the effects of climate change. The camp is open to anyone to attend, and will host numerous workshops on many aspects of climate change. read full story / add a comment

The environmental group Friends of the Irish Environment have written to the Minister for the Environment calling for prosecutions to follow the recent complete levelling of two listed ringforts by a farmer in County Cork. The ringforts were located in the townland of Knockacareagh, near Killmurray in north Cork. The farm was auctioned on 24 June, 2010. The new owner obliterated the ring forts, which were marked on maps and included in a photograph on the auctioneer's website, within a week of taking possession. read full story / add a comment |
