Last night and this morning, Shell were blocked from accessing their newly created compound in Aughoose for 16 hours after a protester locked on underneath an IRMS security van that was blocking the entrance. Members of the local community and Rossport Solidarity Camp kept vigil throughout the night, worried that IRMS might try to use similar violence to the night that Willie Corduff was beaten up while under a lorry at the Glengad compound in 2009. read full story / add a comment

To the great dismay of the very many people internationally who are working selflessly, to improve public health by urging governmental reconsideration of current obsolete national standards of permissible exposure to microwave radiation it appears that witnesses, including Prof. Olle Johansson, Sweden, Dr.. Annie Sasco, France, and Dr. Dimitris Panagopoulos, Greece have suffered academic persecution at least in part for having rendered great public service by testifying before the Canadian Parliament. read full story / add a comment

1. NATO bombing, no solutionJust eight years after they launched their shock-and-awe devastation of Baghdad and ten years after their invasion of Afghanistan, the same Western forces are pummelling yet another Muslim state with bombs, burning soldiers and tanks and killing civilians in the process.

Yet again, the claim is that their intervention is a question of moral principle. The passing of the UN security Resolution 1973 which authorised the bombing, was held up as an attempt to protect the Libyan rebels and stop Gaddafi brutally slaughtering his people. Why, then, did the same Western powers provide Gaddaffi with the arms that are now slaughtering the Libyan people? read full story / add a comment

The ongoing Fukushima nuclear crisis has raised numerous concerns, the candor of pronouncements regarding the reality of circumstances being one of them. As many wonder what the future will hold, the events reported in this article suggest some possible conclusions, the facts being less than reassuring.

Full text and links to article's source documents only available on Common Dreams at url below.

As radiation counts elevate in Japan, news of nuclear contamination spreading across a widening spectrum of life and its necessities, official pronouncements continue to play down events’ gravity. While some have questioned whether this is being pursued to promote calm, or perhaps the nuclear industry, the result has left many either skeptical of official claims or simply reassured by them. It seems time for some difficult facts. read full story / add a comment

Dear Friends,
In mid-February, the EU proposed a relaxing of the legislation around the presence of GM ingredients in food stuffs and animal feed in Europe. This move was supported by Brendan Smith, then Minister for Agriculture, Food and Fisheries, without a mandate from the people of Ireland.
It is now time to harvest the growing momentum of concern among the people of Ireland.
Food Action and GM-Free Ireland invite you to participate in ‘Keeping Ireland GM Free/StopGMO – Gathering Momentum’ an all-Island gathering. Dangers of Genetically modified foods http://www.gmfreeireland.org/health/index.php read full story / add a comment
