An Ógra Shinn Féin motion calling on the party to boycott the World Economic Forum was passed at todays Ard Fheis in the RDS, Dublin. The motion which was opposed by the Ard Comhairle went to a recount and was passed by a slim majority. The Ard Comhairle backed ammendment called for a review of the partys position. However a number of speakers opposed this and called for a decision for or against. This is the first time SF have actually formally taken a position on the WEF. The following motionon on the agenda, also tabled by Ógra Shinn Féin, mandated the party to send a delegation to the next WSF. This motion was passed unanimousely. read full story / add a comment

In June 2001, in the Italian city of Genoa, protests were held against the G8 at whish a young anarchist, Carlo Giuliani, was killed and many more protestors (Irish included) were beaten, assaulted and falsely imprisoned by the Italian state. Almost two and a half years later and most irish people still don't fully understand why this protest was held, why did the Italian state act so violently and just how violent the Italian state was on those June days. read full story / add a comment

Given the repeated references to Tourish’s writings (especially by Pat C.) and the apparent intervention by the man himself, I have decided to take a couple of hours out and submit a reply. This is not an official CWI statement (the CWI would not waste their time on it) and is purely a personal response to the claim that the CWI is a cult. read full story / add a comment

"Saddam Hussein refused to comply with seventeen Security Council resolutions over twelve years. Iraq is ruled by an evil and cruel military dictatorship. It is a regime which tolerates no dissent and no protest. Berlusconi's Mousetrap - Produced by IMC Ireland - will be screened in Derry on Saturday Night. Berlusconi's Mousetrap is the longest and most comprehensive English Language Documentary on the events in Genoa that exists. It is on at 9pm in the Nerve Centre. I think this is the first screening of it in Derry. It is being shown as part of the Foyle Film Festival. Please spread the word in Activist circles.
