"This pacifistic flourish might even have been forgotten if not forgiven --along with the band's misguided foray into techno with Zooropa' --had it not been for Bono's egregious and now consistent legitimizing of right-wing politicians. There was, of course, Bono's serenade of Paul Martin at the Liberal leadership convention where the shipping magnate took over Canada's top job from Jean Chretien. Then, worse yet perhaps, there was his goodwill tour' to Africa with Paul O'Neil of the Bush Administration, helping to pretty up the White House while the rest of the world was up in arms and in the streets over its illegal war on Iraq. Around this time, Bono even struck up a friendly acquaintance with the loathsome Jesse Helms. Finally, then, in what would seem to be a pretty consistent devolution, comes the friendly chat with Paul Wolfowitz, no doubt a preview of future high profile efforts to rehabilitate the image of the World Bank and the war-monger now heading it up." read full story / add a comment ![]()

The protest is being called by Residents Against Racism Another protest is planned for 23rd March outside Dail Eireann at 12.30. Two women from Athlone with a child each in their care are presently being brought to Dublin Airport. Some of their kids are not with them. People are being picked up from all over country. Residents against Racism reckon it will be a large number in total and that most likely the Gardai etc have chartered a plane. A Woman from Mill Street resident here for four and a half years who is sick and disabled (she was taken ill at Burgh Quay last week) with two daughters in school here one in primary and one in secondary is in custody en route to Dublin airport. This is despite her having huge support in favour of her remaining from her community. It must be said that in our efforts to highlight the ongoing crisis one thing is constant – The respect and gratitude the patients have for the nurses and doctors in A&E across the country who have continued to work for years in unhealthy and unsafe conditions and as they so rightly say enough is enough for patients and staff. It must stop now. Patients together met with Minister Harney in November at that meeting she promised she would meet with us again in a few weeks. In light of the continued deterioration of conditions for staff and patients in A&E we now seek that meeting. We also wish to discuss any actions taken to implement our demands read full story / add a comment

Well I decided to call Ryanair to make a complaint about the way they were insulting Che Geuvara by putting berties face on him. I rang their head office in Dublin. It was Sunday just gone. There was a message recorded which I listened to. It gave me a number to call to deal with a human. I'll put the exact numbers here later. I was informed this would cost 1.75 in euro from ROI or 1 pound from the UK to call. The message clearly stated (as I noted a little later) that the number was for an irish office. read full story / add a comment

Sky , over the time the 'Irishheads' (who would later establish the IMC here) got to know him in Genoa for the Anti G8 protests, became our new best friend. I can remember it like it was yesterday sitting at the cafe beside the Genoa IMC being ranted at by Sky about why ireland needed an Indymedia Site yesterday. I remember him going around in his raver necklace in the Centre on the Sunday of the protests chilling others out even though he knew big trouble was coming our way. He ended up in a coma in Hospital and We never saw him in the flesh again. The Daily mail slandered and scapegoated him in the worst way possible and this Guardian Article (Cut and pasted as site requires registration) tells the whole story in a fair way. Fuck the man from the Daily Mail and good on Sky for Harrasing them and standing up for his rights. read full story / add a comment
