offsite link Trump is Not to Blame for Carney?s Win Thu May 01, 2025 09:00 | Dr James Allan
The media are wrong to pin the blame for the Canadian Conservatives' loss on Trump, says Prof James Allan. In truth, the Tories' vote was sky high ? but the Left-wing vote coalesced around Carney.

The 14 raytheon accused are 9 women and 5 men, based in Derry, in the north of Ireland, who are facing criminal charges after they used Non Violent Direct Action to access the raytheon Software plant in Derry, in an attempt to disarm the mainframe computer.

raytheon are the world's largest manufacturer of missiles and the world's fifth largest weapons manufacturer.

Until they left in February 2010 (thanks to all the action taken against them), raytheon's Derry software plant developed the firmware for transponders, targeting software and other crucial guidance system-related work for weapons.

Their factories globally manufacture Tomahawk Cruise missiles, Sidewinder missiles, Hellfire missiles, the "Bunker Buster" bombs, the delivery systems for Cluster bombs, White Phosphate and Napalm.

The 9 women who occupied arms company raytheon's premises in Derry during the Israeli assault on Gaza are being "arraigned" before the court on Monday next, 21st Sept. While they tried to repeat what the raytheon 9 men did and bring down the computer system, the heightened security meant that they did little damage. Nonetheless, the state is going after the women who were trying to stop war crimes while the war criminals walk free. Four men arrested as they demonstrated in support of the women are also in court on Monday. read full story / add a comment

There was the whiff of something in the Derry air. The constantly rising civilian death toll in Gaza had already produced the same outpourings of rage on the streets of Derry as it had around the world. Thousands of signatures had been gathered calling on raytheon to be given the boot, while ever larger crowds had gathered for vigils at the cenotaph, marches through the city, rallies at the Guildhall and at a nonviolent blockade of raytheon itself. Now more and more of us were becoming determined that we do not have to resign to feelings of helplessness in the face of Israel’s war atrocities. Our burning rage was igniting something positive. read full story / add a comment

Before Christmas we were told of yet another delay to the publication of the findings of the Saville Inquiry. It is now unlikely to report until late autumn 09, more than 37 years after the events it inquires into. Certainly for family members of the murdered, many who have since died, and those of the wounded who are no longer with us justice delayed has been justice denied. However this delay in justice resonates beyond the case itself which is why Martin Luther King could say 'Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere'. 37 year's ago Lord Widgery's Inquiry took the side of injustice. His report retrospectively legitimised the military repression of the civil rights movement. To him justice wasn't a human ideal he had a duty to strive towards but merely a political consideration of the vested interests he represented. So the ideal was hollowed out to become another tool of oppression. read full story / add a comment
