There is an article with the above title published over on Anarkismo that discusses free software and related activities in terms of what it means for Anarchism. It draws some parallels with previous freebie or volunteer efforts in the past and compares them to today.

Unlike most discussions around changing the future that tend to focus on key political events and ideas, this article presents the case that the mundane acts of writing free software is creating important kinds of awarenesses in people that would otherwise not be politically motivated. read full story / add a comment

The Iraq war was won and lost a long time ago. Now it's time to get out and go home. Like Vietnam the United States is fighting an enemy that will not give up. Like Vietnam the US is fighting an enemy on their home turf. Like Vietnam more and more Americans are turning against the powers that be that got us into this war. Unlike Vietnam we won the war and now comes the cost. read full story / add a comment

The translation here is a bit creaky but please bear with it. The Iraq Freedom Congress brings together socialists, feminists, workers and progressive forces. It stands for:
1. End the occupation of Iraq – the US forces must leave Iraq immediately
2.End the interference of the Islamic currents from people’s lives
3. Guarantee the right of the Iraqi people to make an informed and free decision on the future of political system
4. Restore civil life to Iraq

Its slogan is:
Working For a Democratic, Secular and Progressive Alternative to both the US Occupation and Political Islam in Iraq

The US forces flagrantly provocative raided the IFC headquarter in Baghdad. They arrested a number of its guards and confiscated some important documents. read full story / add a comment
