Deirdre Clancy gave the rest of her testimony, followed by Nuin Dunlop. The junior prosecutor bored the jury while he made insinuations about Ms. Clancy's religious beliefs, the existence of a ringleader in the group, and hidden desires to get arrested. The senior prosecutor tried to portray Ms. Dunlop as not having thought the action through very well. Both ladies explained quite well the real context and motives of their action, from what they knew of the impending shock and awe, and the concerns for the people in Iraq. After lunch Cathy Kelly of Voices in the Wilderness and former UN Asst Secretary-General Denis Halliday testified as to what they had told the defendants about the situation in Iraq when they attended a peace conference in Kildare shortly before the action. Both of them related the first hand experience of the hard realities of Iraqi life to the jury as they had done to the defendants. This report is not verbatim, and is based on notes taken in court. read full story / add a comment

Tuesday saw the continuation of Ciaron's testimony, and Damien Moran took the stand, to not only explain what he did and why, but at the request of the prosecutor, young Damo demonstrated the correct way to hold and use a hammer! On Wednesday, 4 witnesses were in the stand. First, a retired RAF group captain gave expert testimony as to the effect that disrupting military supply lines has on a war effort. Then Jimmy Massey told the court about his time in Kuwait and Iraq as a US Marine Staff Sgt around the time of the action. Karen Fallon spent 50 minutes in the stand telling it like it is, and Deirdre Clancy commenced her testimony, which continues tomorrow. Report based on our notes. read full story / add a comment

Audio of talk by Dr Brian P Murphy osb in the Imperial Hotel South Mall Cork on Fri April 15 2005. Nine audio files - approx two hours in total. This very successful meeting (over 200 present) also saw the launch of Dr Murphy's new book, 'The Catholic Bulletin and Republican Ireland'.
Some recent studies question the ideals of the Irish republican movement, branding it as sectarian; minimising the ideals of those involved; and categorising the IRA as murderers of policemen. These issues were addressed in the talk, which furthers the critique of the approach adopted by Peter Hart in 'The IRA and its Enemies', and in subsequent revisionist work. The debate on the approach by Peter Hart, and his response, has been covered on Indymedia Ireland previously here. ![]()

Peace activist ed horgan (ex Irish Army Commandant) has been arrested at Shannon Airport for taking a picture of a US Hercules aircraft. This picture was taken in a public area. It looks as though the Irish State will stoop to nothing in its desparation to hide the evidence of illegal US troop movements. A private jet similar to the ones chartered by the CIA for illegal transport of prisoners for the purposes of torture was also spotted by him. He was unable to confirm this because he was arrested.
