Last night at An Cruiscin Lan on Douglas St., the band Ilya K and Dj Doc Fiasco provided a great night's entertainment to an appreciative crowd composed of familiar faces and some new friends. The visit of the head of the British Colonial police in Ireland to Cork tomorrow (September 28) is part of the ongoing process of normalising British rule in Ireland. By bringing Hugh Orde to Cork, like his visit to Ballymurphy in Belfast and Crossmaglen in Co Armagh, an attempt is being made to suggest that British rule and its forces of occupation are now normal and acceptable. read full story / add a comment

Four years into the war on Iraq it seems more serious nonviolent resistance is coming from within the military, from veterans of the war and the families of the military war dead than any civilian anti-war movement in the western world. Lt Ehren Watada refused deployment to Iraq declaring the war illegal. His court martial earleir this year collapsed over a legal technicality. His second trial is due to start early October. The developer's, Ballymore Properties, have reneged on their promise to build a 6-screen cinema as part of the massive White Water Shopping Centre. On the Thirty First of July Florian L, Axel H and Oliver R were arrested and detained for the alleged attemmp to set fire to police vehicles in Brandenburg,They have been detained since that date.
