Below is a statement from the Iraq Freedom Congress in which they condemn US aggression towards Iran.

Militarization and the use of force is a key element in the US administration ideology to impose its hegemony on the world. Beating the war drums is always part of US policy to contain its international competitors such as the European Union, Russia and China, and this policy is an extension to the one that is implemented in Iraq to wage the second Gulf War and the imposition of economic blockade, which lasted thirteen year then its occupation of Iraq. The US administration justified its inhuman policy with the pretext which is "possession of weapons of mass destruction". read full story / add a comment

The call to action

"When your kids want to know "Where were you in the great Writers Strike of 2007?" you'll be able to say that you walked the line with writers from all over the world in support of the principle that, if they use our work, we get paid for it and that, however modest, you contributed to the victory that's coming for our fellow writers in the Writers' Guild of America. Two Government Departments mandated with taking care of the well-being of our kids
have been shown to display two-tier policy which favours the wealthy and ghettoises the
poor. No surprises there except that both are run by experienced and rather limited
women politicians; Mary Hanafin and Mary Harney. This year 2007 saw severe criticism
by anti-poverty groups of both departments in the wake of published OECD reports.
Ms Hanafin's department had a critical underspend which favours the private school
sector and Ms Harney's Department published a 2005 report criticising cancer care
without an operating link to the report in toto. http://www.indymedia.ie/article/84946 read full story / add a comment

"SOCIAL TRANSFORMATION THROUGH COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT. A CASE STUDY FROM A LA CEIBA" A NEIGHBOURHOOD IN HAVANA CITY, CUBA.

Speaker: José Israel Martínez Rodríguez, community worker form Cuba

Social transformation through community development has been a defining element of the Cuban model of sustainable local development. In the Cuban context, local development is understood as a participatory process whereby local governments, non-governmental actors and the community coordinate efforts to design strategies that can enhance the lives and livelihoods of communities. Strengthening the sense of ownership of projects is a significant aspect of this process of participatory development.
