For those following the Hidden History on Coolnacrease below is published a transcript of the Joe Duffy Liveline programme of Nov 6th 2007 on RTE. It features Jack Lane and Tom Carew. There is also a link to the transcript of the previous day's Liveline where the same topic was duscussed. I have tried to give the discussion verbatim where possible, but due to sound quality and the natural cadence of conversation, on occasion it wasn't possible to catch every word. Where I have some doubt about the actual words, I have used [ ?] read full story / add a comment

A CIA controlled Learjet reg no N71PG was refuelled at dawn this morning at Shannon and made a hasty exit within the hour. It had been due two hours earlier, in the hours of darkness as usual. Unlike the two other CIA planes recently refuelled at Shannon, Gulfstream N476LC refuelled on 30 Oct 07 and Gulfstream N478GS refuelled on 30 Nov 07, both of which were notorious torture rendition planes, we know very little about N71PG so far. Please carry out some research and try and dig up its CIA history. We should remember that when the now infamous N379P, known as the Guantanamo Express was first seen at Shannon and logged on indymedia by Tim Hourigan, we were not even aware of the CIA torture rendition programme. Such murky and gross violations of human rights are by their very nature very difficult to expose. read full story / add a comment

Aspects of living in Dublin 2002-07 reminded of my formative years in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. A marriage of police corruption with the denial of basic civil liberties and routine deaths in custody. Times that produced some pretty good music. "Pig City" was an '83 punk single by anarchist friend Tony Kniepp, recently it became the title of a book about the Brisbane music scene under Joh and a few months it was a reunion gig. Download the recent radio show on the link below.... read full story / add a comment

Irish Premiere of Ricky Lake's acclaimed documentary will be shown at a private screening on January 16 and 17 2008. This controversial documentary although focused on US maternity care is VERY relevant to Irish mothers and their experiences of childbirth in Ireland. Birth: it’s a miracle. A rite of passage. A natural part of life. But more than anything, birth is a business. Compelled to find answers after a disappointing birth experience with her first child, actress Ricki Lake recruits filmmaker Abby Epstein to examine and question the way American women have babies. The film interlaces intimate birth stories with surprising historical, political and scientific insights and shocking statistics about the current maternity care system read full story / add a comment

Yet another provo leaves party, admits that provisionalism is about administrating British rule in Ireland. Some say no one could have "predicted" the manner in which the provos have turned. However Republicans at the time of the 1986 split correctly "mapped" the future of the provosionals using proir history. Indeed while anyone with any grasp of history could have done so, only those affiliated with RSF did. read full story / add a comment

Chavez has very narrowly lost the referendum on two proposed block reforms to the 1999 constitution of the Bolivarian republic of Venezuela. These being "block a" indefinite re-election & "block b" votes for 16 year olds. It is too early to apportion blame or even theorise that the socialist project which is associated with Hugo Chavez is damaged by this. Though naturally that is what both sides (chav and antiChav) are doing. Hugo had in his closing speeches in the campaign railed against an alliance of Spain, its King, the USA and Colombia and then in a typical performance brought in the nazi's, but left out Farc (video attached) whereas the opposing side gurggled about dictatorships, pointed at Bolivia's worrysome crises of the last week & gleefully clapped their little handies when this time they won what Chavez curiously called a "Pyrrhic vicory". That being a classical reference to a naval battle of the early Roman empire whose victory was had at such great cost as to be worthless. read full story / add a comment
