Sometime during the second decade of the sorrowful mysteries, I had a sense we were not alone. Working class should unite against the killings
The killings by the Real IRA and the Continuity IRA of two soldiers and a policeman should be roundly condemned by every section of the working class movement. Working class people today face an unprecedented assault on jobs and on wages. Our public services are threatened by cuts and privatisation. More than ever we need to stand united to defend living standards. read full story / add a comment

After the death of Kennedy it seemed that everything was going wrong. Vietnam, Watergate, the race riots, the cultural chasm between young and old, rich and poor, the collapse of traditional family values and the explosion of drug culture and sexual license among an angry disillusioned generation of baby boomers who should have inherited the American Dream that the “greatest generation” including Kennedy had sacrificed so much for and the rise of nihilistic violence by Manson, the Weathermen, the slaughter at My Lai, the assassinations of Martin Luther King and Bobby Kennedy himself who seemed to be the last of idealistic liberals left after the end of the war. All the problems seemed to have burst to the surface following the death of Kennedy when the hopes and dreams of millions of the young who had been brought up to believe in a safe rational world were shattered. read full story / add a comment ![]()

It was probably the most important anti-war action to happen in Ireland this century – and it was certainly the most daring. At Shannon Airport five people took on the might of the US military – and put a Navy war-plane out of action. Even more amazingly, they ultimately convinced a jury that to do so was not a crime. But the story of the Shannon Five has hardly been told, until now. For the first time, a new book reveals the inside story of an intrepid act of peacemaking. read full story / add a comment
