"I would rather be in prison or dead than blindly submit to a government I know is corrupt and wrong. I would rather dare to live free and fight against injustice than cower in silence and despair. I think many people feel the same way. We just have to be smarter in how we speak out and in how we act." read full story / add a comment

The man is in a corner, his party in a hole, the opposition lining up to take on the government’s toxic debts and Ireland once again is in an economic shithole that was brought about by political representatives who neither knew how to spend wisely nor how to manage properly, in case of a rainy day, the state’s finances. Joe Higgins was a total gobeen for telling us that we were on a slide to disaster, while David McWilliams was criticised by everybody and anybody who proudly professed their expertise in the financial affairs of the state. read full story / add a comment ![]()

Eluana Englaro has died peacefully this evening Tomorrow Italy's progressives and secularists will demonstrate against Berlusoni's unconstitutional decree attempting to ensure a woman who was in a coma since 1992 continues in that vegetative state. In Berlusconi's words :- "She is alive enough to get pregnant". Leaving one only to wonder who would have fathered her child and what would have been the morailty of such an act. However, the 11th president of the Italian Republic Goirgio Napolitano refused to sign Berlusconi's decree deeming it to be unconstitional. A petition started by Umberto Eco and Dario Foy amongst others has now collected over 1000 signatures. read full story / add a comment ![]()

There is a tendency to dismiss the rantings of Kevin Myers as mere guff designed to sell newspapers. However, this would be to ignore the collateral damage his phosphorous cluster bomb prose inflicts. His salvo last Friday attacking the legacy of Bob Doyle and his comrades who fought in Spain against fascism should be a call to make next Saturday's commemoration in their honour a defiant rebuttal of all Myers' and his ilk stand for. read full story / add a comment |
