national / worker & community struggles and protests / other press Sunday March 01, 2009 00:25 by Anne Mc Shane
The recent change in Irish society from `get rich quick' to working class struggle has been unprecedented. The economy is sinking fast and the predictions are that things can only get worse. European Commission president José Manuel Barroso has made the point that Ireland would be in the same situation as Iceland if it were not in the euro zone. But maybe even this cannot save the country from plunging into bankruptcy, as banks and businesses collapse and unemployment soars.

The banks have been given a €7 billion bailout of taxpayer’s money for their greedy risk-taking mistakes, whilst ordinary people are given job losses, wage cuts, a pension levy, a shrinking health service, and cutbacks in education, transport and other public services.

Enough is enough!

Come down to the Bank of Ireland and AIB on College Green, lunchtime on April 1st to ask them for your money back.

Let's give them a queue to remember. Shut them down for the day. Reclaim college Green. Dress up as financial fools. Show them how foolish they are. Fools Party at the bank. read full story / add a comment

Al Gore: "I believe we have reached the stage where it is time for civil disobedience to prevent the construction of new coal plants."

Next Monday The largest act of civil disobedience will happen against global warming in the US. A large protest has been called at a coal-fired plant in Washington, D.C, 11,000 people are expected.
