Dmitry Orlov who is perhaps now one of the most well known people in the Peak Oil community will be coming to Dublin in June and will be giving a public lecture titled: Creative Solutions for the New Emergency on Tues 9th June in the Davenport Hotel, Dublin 2. Dmitry will be here to take part in a Feasta organised conference from 10th to 12th June and will be a keynote speaker in that event. Dmitry Orlov, author of Reinventing Collapse, will explore the question "What is it that we are looking at here, and what can we do about it?" He believes that there is not much hope for a global financial system and economy, nor should there be given the huge problems it is causing with the environment. If this is the case, then what can people do, in terms of coping with financial collapse, creating community resilience, and re-skilling for the new, local, self-reliant, highly manual age that is coming? read full story / add a comment

There is fear and loathing in the vegetable patch. The greens are nervous and restive. Inclement environmental conditions have sapped their once bright emerald hue leaving them looking pale and sickly. But worse is to come. Rumours abound of an army of ravenous caterpillars waiting to crawl all over them and expected to do so on June 5th. The greens know the consequences. Their once succulent leaves shredded, what beckons is a humiliating journey to the compost heap. Greens, however, have strong survival instincts and so they are desperately trying to stave off the evil day. ‘I’m off to Tralee,’ Twittered Senator Dan Boyle, ‘ to say something controversial.’ That something was a call for the renegotiation of their Programme for Government with Fianna Fail. read full story / add a comment ![]()

Branislav Peranovic is the "archpriest" (orthodox equivalent to dean's rank) who has run the "Novi Pazar" drug rehabilitation centre since 2003. Video footage shown on Thursday night on Serbian TV,& being widely picked up throughout European media, clearly shows inmates being beaten, a regular occurence which Peranovic justifies completely telling press that a "heavy hand" is needed and that anyone who has a "junkie in their home" would understand this. He further insists that parents of his "patients" approve the regime which is now to be investigated by the Serbian state who understandably consider the whole thing to be torture. One former inmate describes how patients put their trousers bottoms in their socks before their beatings knowing that they will lose bowel control & in common parlance "shit themselves" but at least it won't go over the carpet or tiles. read full story / add a comment
