Last night at the Lab on Foley Street there was a good turn out of artists, political activists and interested individuals for a discussion around the notion of amateurism. It was billed that “four artists and designers would describe their various relationships to 'Amateurism' - DIY art and technology production, designing with found materials, and design in the developing world”. read full story / add a comment ![]()

Springtime in Europe and the Earth's life cycle is in bloom again. The 3 parts of the radio documentary capture magical moments in the recent history of one of the most exciting projects in Barcelona at present, our community garden in Gracia. This article was written after a lovely Valentine's weekend of much open, shared and participative activity, the highlight of which was our collective mural day in the garden. It is hoped that some of the life, current ideas, projects, tools, spaces, bargains, oddities, dreams, passions and goings on of the city and her peoples are communicated here-in. Friday… Thinking about winning Saturday… Painting pictures and feeling like we are winning Sunday… Sharing passions, playing and doing, remembering the South read full story / add a comment

The Government spent tax-payers money on an advertisement we have all, more than likely, seen. It is the ad saying, change your world, change the world. The Green Party now holds office, giving Ireland that positive hope of a greener future. Theres no denying, the Government has not completely failed us. There is a 'landfill' of criticism out there but we do have good and accessible recycling centres, green bins, and some like myself have brown bins. This is not the point. While we go out of our way to recycle, and are somewhat responsible for our part in changing the world for a more greener safer future. Where do the big businesses and Corporations come into all of this? read full story / add a comment

This event builds on the successful bicycle Christmas parties held over the last two years in POD. The evening will include lovely, tasty, healthy food and films, DJs and prizes for the most festively dressed bicycles and cyclists on the night. The party is a great opportunity to relax, eat, drink, chat and dance with fellow campaigners and others working in the area of sustainability. Two episodes of Cultivate’s ‘Powerdown Show’ will kick off the night. This is a series of 10 twenty-minute programmes that aim to inform us on the context and responses to climate and energy uncertainty. 19.30 - The Challenges Ahead 19.50 - Getting Around (featuring members of the Dublin cycling Campaign) read full story / add a comment

The Socialist Party has been in discussion with others on the left with a view to forming an Electoral Alliance for the Local Elections which will take place in June 2009. These discussions have been publicly carried in the pages of our paper "the Socialist" and on sites such as this. The Socialist Party has put forward a very positive proposal for a local election slate of candidates. It is important the slate would field credible candiates with a record in the their area that there is political agreement with the programme of the slate which will flow from discussions. We feel these issues among others mentioned in the material below are extremley important if we are to get aggreement. This is why in these proposals we have provided fuller elaboration of our position in an open, honest and constructive manner we hope that other groups will respond in kind. read full story / add a comment ![]()
