Food Not Bombs recovers and shares free vegan food with the public without restriction in over 1,000 cities around the world to protest war, poverty and the destruction of the environment.
Each group is independent and invites everyone to participate in making decisions for their local chapter using the consensus process.

Food Not Bombs is dedicated to taking nonviolent direct action to change society so no one is forced to stand in line to eat at a soup kitchen expressing a commitment to the fact that food is a right and not a privilege. With over a billion people going hungry each day how can we spend money on weapons or war.

A new initiative has been started in Dublin. we appeal for volunteers.

The Progressive Film Club are delighted to feature four new films in our last screening before a much needed summer break. It's a varied programme with two shorts - one the multi-award winning "Through the Wall", which was the outstanding work from this year's "Latin American Shorts" film festival. The other short "To Help US" is a very clever (and really short) work from a newcomer.
We follow with a film about the privatisation of Greek water. Many of the issues will be familiar to Irish people but the results of a failure to win this battle are very evident in this film.

Our final film, with a background of stunning scenery takes us up K2 and focuses on the everyday dangerous working conditions and pay of the sherpas who porter for the international expeditions climbing the mountain. This film has won several prestigious international awards.
A great final programme - not to be missed! read full story / add a comment

This is a repost of a report by the WSM on the Water Charges protest last Saturday April 8th.

Thousands of protesters converged on Connolly and Heuston stations in Dublin yesterday as part of the 9th national demonstration against the water charges. The demonstration was called by Right2Water, the umbrella group of left wing political parties and trade unions, as part of an effort to pressurise the government to abandon their attempts to implement water charges.

WATER CHARGES AREN’T GONE…YET. WE NEED ONE MORE PUSH TO END THEM

Water Charges haven’t gone away. Fine Gael are still trying to get them in through the back door.

A special Oireachtas Committee has been meeting since December. It must report to Government by April 14. Its recommendations will decide whether water charges are scrapped or retained.

Fine Gael are proposing a charge for so called wilful waste of water. This would mean water meters in every house and a billing system just like water charges. read full story / add a comment

This talk will give an overview on how social movements – particularly the landless movement (MST), women and indigenous people – are dealing with the political and economic crises in Brazil, and their agenda and vision for the future. The discussion will focus on the losses these groups may suffer if the reforms proposed by the government are approved. Since assuming the presidency of the country, Michel Temer has taken several measures that directly undermine these movements, withdrawing rights and repealing previously approved policies. read full story / add a comment
