Republican Sinn Féin held a very successful picket in Carlow Town supporting the right of political status for Republican prisoners. The picket took place on Saturday February 13 between 1.00pm and 2.30pm.
Those taking part in the protest picket very well received by local people and almost 1,000 leaflets were distributed.

Republican Sinn Féin have established a Cumann in Carlow Town as the organisation in Leinster continues to grow. Named the Myles Shevlin/Tony Ruane Cumann its aim is to gon on a recriting and development drive over the coming weeks.

A temporary public art project in Leighlinbridge (County Carlow) by Dublin-based artist Glenn Loughran. Working with the local community , the project commenced by collectively building a school-house using straw-bale eco-building techniques. This space then became the site of an education exchange between the artist and a group of local young people - touching on isses of identity, community, class, race and post-colonialism, delivered to the young people through the metaphor of “The Neighbour”. Today, The UK Independent newspaper reveals that "Britain's official food safety watchdog has privately told supermarkets that it will not stop them selling an illegal GM rice to the public". Documents seen by the newspaper show that the Food Standards Agency assured major manufacturers and retailers 10 days ago that it would not make them withdraw the rice - at the same time as it was telling the public it should not be allowed to go on sale.

The front page of the Carlow Nationalist today carried reports of an emerging protest at the gates of a building site in at Fruithill, in Carlow town. The unofficial dispute arose after two members, block layers both, of the Carlow branch of BATU approached the site only to be told they were "not employing anyone who is a member of a union." read full story / add a comment
