offsite link Can Monkeys Teach Us About Fairness? Sat May 17, 2025 17:00 | Noah Carl
A famous study from 2003 was touted as showing that monkeys reject "unequal pay". However, a more recent shows that the original interpretation was wrong. So, no, monkeys don?t have much to teach us about fairness.

Modern politicians lack the personal authority of ancient kings and so they appeal to The Science to impose their schemes on the population. This is how science becomes corrupted by politics, says Prof James Alexander.

national / crime and justice / news report Friday July 08, 2011 12:12 by Justin Morahan   text 3 comments (last - friday july 15, 2011 22:36)
Thirty one prosecutions of an innocent man, followed by perjury, cover up, scandalous conduct by judges, barristers, solicitors, Courts Service and DPP's office, assaults by Gardaí etc - there was a long story to tell about the shameless judicial system in Ireland outside our Houses of Parliament two days ago.

This story is one that could also come under the Rights and Freedom heading as well as under "Crime and Justice". Kevin Tracey has been the victim of criminal behaviour but he has also been deprived of his human rights and of freedom to live a normal life with his family in peace. read full story / add a comment

This is just a short account, and attempted analysis, of some news stories that have arisen in the last year or so in the general area of justice and intelligence agency activity in Ireland. I have tried particularly to tie some of the stories together in order to attempt to trace some of the major trends in this otherwise miscellaneous data. Unfortunately it isn't a pretty picture! read full story / add a comment

From: sylvia wall ( mailto:sylvia_m@hotmail.co.uk )

Today (monday 17th July) is the 57th day of the hunger strike of Peter Preston.

He is in a tent on the pavement outside the National Library. He is weak, looks very thin but was alert,
lucid and both pleasant and amusing.
He has an appointment to see the Minister for Justice, equality and law reform - Michael McDowell - at 9-30 am on Wednesday, 19th July. read full story / add a comment

The Triple Arm of Good Governance: the Judiciary, the Gardai and the offices of Parliament.

Included herein: A Question tabled for written reply to Minister Micheal Mc Dowell TD.

A response to the written reply by Peter Preston.

To be added at Mr Preston's request:

"Before each Dail session, the Ceann Comhairle says a prayer that goes something like this,

Through your divine inspiration may all our actions, works and words come from thee.....

(Mr Preston insists that his hunger strike is nothing to do with the criminal case, but
to be answered by the TD who he accuses of returning to him transcripts altered by a named TD
within Dail Eireann). read full story / add a comment

On the 7th of June, Peter Preston having met no satisfactory explanation for a serious assault on his daughter which caused grevious bodily harm resulting in 25 stitches to her face - undertook to refuse food in protest.
One week later he took up position on Kildare street, the front entrance of the Dail (the Irish parliament). His fast has been sustained since then, & yet no-one really seems to have noticed other than the independent TD Finian Mc Grath.

Maybe a person of middle age with a scarred 19 year old daughter protesting on the street is not so newsworthy.
Maybe the menu at the Unicorn restaurant is more interesting.
Maybe his handwritten statement was difficult to read at first.
Maybe he's asking awkward questions in a manageable way. read full story / add a comment
