WICKLOW County Council / ISPCA REFUSE RESCUE GROUPS ACCESS to SAVE ‘POUND DOGS’ LIVES - DEMAND THAT WICKLOW COUNCIL MEMBERS ALLOW THESE DOGS TO BE SAVED/rehomed BY REPUTABLE RESCUES The ISPCA run the WICKLOW pound on behalf of Wicklow county council. There are 2 dog wardens employed who have been doing the job for years and obviously by their stance they obviously think killing is perfectly acceptable. They are obstructing all efforts to allow rescues in to help the dogs and have the backing of the council, the ISPCA do not intervene. According to sources there has been no effective governance of the pound by the council at all - they just sign a cheque for them every year and don't want to know. The council don’t appear to care or have a clue about the pound and insist all the dogs they kill are unsuitable for rehoming (44% in 2010 and 28% last year) Dogs Trust can take some dogs as does Wicklow spca but there are lots of other dogs that need help. read full story / add a comment

Wicklow Against Suicide is fully supporting, endorsing and helping in the organisation of a gig to raise funds for suicide prevention which is being put together by local man Shane Rowan on March 2nd in the Royal Hotel Bray. We announce the Launch of a campaign of opposition to the so called "Riveria" apartments close to seaside area in Bray. We intend to maximise the number of objections against any development proposals and build a grassroots movement based on "people power". We are also opposed to further slot machines in the area which may lead to serious addiction problems and can be a source of trouble within families. We will strongly oppose any plans for development in the one scenic area of Bray left. Instead our campaign believes investment should be concentrated in the town centre. Some of our other aims include campaigning for the re-instatement of the Blue Flag for our Beach which we had in 1991. We also demand greater transparency and accountability in the planning process. read full story / add a comment

Recently I went to Bundoran and saw a lady wearing a tee-shirt saying " Bundoran Town Council are corrupt" and having been involved in many campaigns I've noticed a sense of frustration people have towards local government. While I am not saying anybody is corrupt of making any allegations, I do think we have to ask serious questions about the level of transparency in local government in Ireland. read full story / add a comment

The giveaway of a public beach to developers while 6,000 objections ignored. Here corruption is exposed. Most people however get to confused to understand the corruption but do not be fooled. None of the usual 'campaigners' bothered to fight this corruption and when delegates from our group went to a public meeting in Co.Dublin and brought up what is happening in Greystones, they were not bothered listening. read full story / add a comment |
