Ógra Shinn Féin has today launched a youth election broadcast for the upcoming 26 County General Election. Irish Anarchist Organistion, the Workers Solidarity Movement, today launched a campaign to encourage public understanding of our democratic system in the run up to the general election. The segregated wings in Maghaberry are quickly filling up, and regrettably a significant body of criminals have entered these wings. The Republican Prisoners' Action Group is concerned that Republican POWs may be forced to double-up with other prisoners in their cells, and if the Brits or those acting on their behalf in Maghaberry attempt to force the POWs to share cells with criminals they may be forced into taking some form of action in protest against such a distasteful policy. read full story / add a comment

Tony Blair stated that today's events at Stormont should represent an end to a dispute between "two warring traditions", and was subsequently described by Bertie Ahern as "a true friend of Ireland. True Republicans were only ever at war with England, and whilst she continues to maintain her Occupation of this country further conflict is inevitable. Those who have sought to ensure the continuation of English rule in Ireland are only ensuring continuing warfare between these countries, and cannot plausibly be described as our friends. read full story / add a comment

The recalling of the Stormont assembly today (May 8 ) serves to block the possibility of a just and lasting settlement of the conflict in Ireland. The Republican Prisoners held in Maghaberry Concentration Camp have agreed to temporarily suspend their 10-month long protest. The Annual 1916 Easter Commemoration in Cork took place on Easter Sunday April 8th. Year on year the numbers attending grow and this year was no exception. Assembly took place at the Wilton Roundabout at 2.30pm. The parade then proceeded to the Republican Plot, Saint Finbarr's Cemetery lead by a Colour party from Sinn Féin (Poblachtach) – Cork, followed a number of pipers of the ex-Cork Volunteer Pipe Band, Cumann na mBan and a large contingent of the public embracing all age groups. read full story / add a comment

ON this the 91st anniversary of the 1916 Proclamation of the Irish Republic, the Leadership of the Republican Movement sends greetings to members, supporters and friends throughout the world. We send a special greeting to our imprisoned comrades in Portlaoise and Maghaberry, Co Antrim and applaud the continual prison protest in Maghaberry which has been ongoing since last June. On this note we would like to extend our appreciation to the Republican Prisoners Action Group who have organised and promoted the outside activity in support of the protesting prisoners. Given the almost total media blackout of Republican Sinn Féin during the Stormont election the results for its candidates were only as expected. Even the name of Republican Sinn Féin was suppressed by the Stormont régime’s electoral body and a compliant media followed suit. Our candidates were styled “Independents”, taking away our coherent strategy and sense of direction. read full story / add a comment |
