Republican Network for Unity shine a light on the revolving door policy of the PSNI regarding ex-RUC officers.
15 years ago the Patten Report consigned the RUC to history and ushered in a new accountable police force, or so we were led to believe. Today (16th September) Drew Harris was appointed as deputy chief constable of the PSNI. Just like his senior George Hamilton, who was appointed chief constable earlier this year, Drew is an ex-RUC officer who was involved in a force that thoughtlessly used shoot-to-kill and oversaw collusion at the highest level read full story / add a comment

In the early morning of March 22th three disarmers were arrested at Saab Aerospace Systems’ weapons factory in Linköping, Sweden. Martin Smedjeback, Annika Spalde and Pelle Strindlund were on their way todisarm Jas 39 Gripen fighter jets, planes intended for export to India, Thailand and South Africa. The peace activists, who are all part of the anti-militaristic network Ofog, entered Saab’s industry area in Linköping by cutting holes in the barbed wire fence surrounding the area. Once inside they held a silent minute, dedicated to the twenty children that die every minute because of poverty in a world that invests more money in weapons than in fighting poverty.

WRCV, Venezuela, 18 May 2006 Venezuela has not been out of the news in the last few years. While most of the world’s media is accusing the Chavez regime of being only one step away from a ‘communist’ dictatorship the real picture of Venezuelan reality is very different. The Chavez government has embarked on a massive programme of social change and wealth redistribution. Venezuela, a country of enormous national wealth, has historically known a very unequal wealth distribution. Under the dominion of multinationals and imperialism Venezuelan wealth found its way to the rich elite in many countries but never trickled down to improve the living and working conditions of the masses and the working class in Venezuela itself. read full story / add a comment
