international / worker & community struggles and protests / press release Friday October 15, 2010 17:57 by john throne
the Chilean miners rescue was watched by tens of millions of people worldwide. These workers are now heros internationally for their great collective struggle underground to stay alive. Unfortunately they are now being corralled by the Chilean President and his right wing capitalist allies. Instead these heroic workers should be organized to go on a Chilean wide and world wide tour to organize the unorganized, to oppose the attacks on workers and to put forward the democratic socialist alternative. read full story / add a comment ![]()

A new book by Donegal community worker Keith Corcoran promises to offer important insights into a rapidly changing world and provide an entertaining read into the bargain. ‘Journey in Wonder’ is an account of Keith adventures through 2006 and 2007 when he travelled through North America and Asia. Keith explains how he came to write the book. “While I was away on my travels I used to send back a group email every few weeks to let friends and family know I was still alive and to share some of my experiences. Then one day while I was in India, an email arrived from my sister Donna to say that a Donegal paper had begun publishing my travelogues, which was a big surprise at the time! That gave me the idea to start writing a complete account of my travels when I returned home and the book ‘Journey in Wonder’ began to take form.” read full story / add a comment ![]()

The film sold out its week-long run at Dublin’s IFI and was moved from the smallest to the largest screen after one day. IFI director Sarah Glennie says “the film attracted a new audience profile to the cinema – it’s pyjama mania!” read full story / add a comment

The Irish Climate Camp will take place this year at Victoria Bridge, County Tyrone, from the 12th to the 16th of August. The camp is taking place in support of the local community and their opposition to the proposed new A5 – a project that will cost a lot of money, a lot of energy (carbon emissions) and really makes no logical sense since vehicle numbers using that route have decreased considerably over recent years. Climate camp Ireland is a group of individuals that believe in taking direct action to prepare for and mitigate the effects of climate change. The camp is open to anyone to attend, and will host numerous workshops on many aspects of climate change. read full story / add a comment ![]()
