Around the world the space for standing up for Palestinian freedom and rights is being shut down by those that oppose our shared values. They are using false claims of antisemitism to deny the Palestinian reality of living under Israels colonial system of Apartheid, occupation, oppression and dispossession. read full story / add a comment

I know, you may think I am deluded. How could life in an Embassy with a cat and a skateboard ever amount to torture? Thats exactly what I thought, too, when Assange first appealed to my office for protection. Like most of the public, I had been subconsciously poisoned by the relentless smear campaign, which had been disseminated over the years. So it took a second knock on my door to get my reluctant attention. But once I looked into the facts of this case, what I found filled me with repulsion and disbelief. read full story / add a comment

A draft of Corks transport plan for the next 20 years includes policies which would decrease the percentage of people who cycle in the the real capital from 2.8% in 2016 to 1.3% in 2036.

Hard not to look at this figures and wince, the Cork Cycling Campaign said on Twitter. ( https://twitter.com/CorkCyclingCrew/status/1142116392466100224?s=20 ) #CMATS idealised scenario wants to see cycling modal share fall to 1.3% in Cork.

national / housing / news report Saturday May 25, 2019 15:13 by samas carraher
Irish Parliament (Dil) votes 36-60 to reject a Sinn Fin bill which aimed to insert a constitutional right to housing. This time last year we learnt that one in every five TDs (public representatives in the Irish Dil [parliament]) are actually landlords (30 of Irelands 158 TDs are landlords. That includes at least four out of 15 of the current Cabinet. Global Rights, May, 2018) The question, of course that follows, in a country that seems to have an enormous problem with either controlling the housing (or any other) market (or property developers themselves, or the banks or other powerful groups within society): is there a conflict of interest? read full story / add a comment

Its that time of year again, when politicians come knocking on doors looking for your vote. This May there will be European and Local elections in Ireland north and south. While domestic issues are, as always, likely to dominate the discussions, we believe it is vitally important that the issue of Palestine is kept firmly in the minds and mouths of all our politicians. The very essence of the Palestine solidarity movement is to think globally, act locally and we have seen impressive local support for Palestinian freedom by many local councils over the past decade. We need to make sure that Palestine is and remains an election issue! read full story / add a comment

This year, LASCs annual Latin America Week (LAW) will be focused on Gender and Extractive Industries. Between April 6th and 13th we will host a series of talks in Dublin, Cork and Galway to explore how extractive industries impact on women in Latin America.

Our Latin America Week keynote speaker is Jakeline Romero Epiayu, from La Guajira, Colombia. Jakeline is a member of local organisation Fuerza de Mujeres Wayu (Wayu Womens Force) which works to visibilise the violations of human and ethnic rights in La Guajira, and to strengthen the rights of women and indigenous communities in the region.
