Thanks from Malaysia to the gallant protesters.
What is needed here is more peaceful protests and demonstrations of people power.
Expressions of discontent are of course deemed illegal, and arrests and beatings frequently occur in the police state of Malaysia.

We in Malaysia, would really appreciate it that Irish Human Rights activists led by the very prominent Irish Anti-War Chairman & Socialist from the Socialist Workers Party, Richard Boyd-Barrett, has supported such solidarity protest with Malaysian activists. For such solidarity is truly needed since it's impossible to get anymore justice from this extremely brutal and corrupted govt. Don't be deceived by the Malaysian ruling class power suit-wearing yuppie image, in contrast to the military suit wearing Burmese regime rulers. Same kind of capitalist inhumanity, greed and brutality.

As to the article by Stephen Bennit, such brutality and greed in Malaysia in reality is due to the capitalist system. The triad is part of the capitalist system and this has nothing to do with race. Unfortunately, the ruling capitalist and elite classes are using race, religion and ultra-nationalism to divide and rule, among the masses. Hence, the biggest gangsters of all are from the ruling politicians from all races and religion; but united in their power towards greed and inhumanity. However, the dominant gangster is the capitalist and elite classes from the ruling party UMNO; that are exploiting Malay-Islamic racial-religious-nationhood supremacy ideology to divide and rule, the legacy of UK capitalist imperialism.

But many thanks if Stephen wants to do similar protest in Australia; we would appreciate it so much!

As a Malaysian, I feel ashamed of myself when I saw these pictures. It seems like foreigners care more about our rights than our own government. Has it come to a point where others have to fight for our birthright? I hope my countrymen who are still ignorant or apathetic will soon realize the tyranny of our government and how it is affecting them and their children's life.

To the picketers, you have my utmost respect and gratitude.

I discovered this blog by accident. I was there at Ballsbridge when the activists took to the road. What a coincidence! I am a Malaysian who had been living for 4 years in Amsterdam with a Netherland PR status, yet I was scared to join in, thinking that photos might be taken, and I would be posed as a 'traitor' in my homeland!! What a stupid notion! Now, looking back, I wish that I had stepped in and took hold of one of the placards.
