Murder is the deliberate killing of another human being without just cause.
That's my bit for the day.
I would murder a Whopper!
This is how animals are slaughtered.
No big deal.

looks shocking to say the least, was that you ARAN in some newspapers today abou the fur protest yesterday in Galway?
what (I think!) ARAN are trying to highlight here are a number of issues. These are the terrible and unnecessary cruelty in the animal food industry. This comes about in the ways that the animals are reared, often without contact with their young (many calves taken away from their mothers at a day old), being pumped full of hormones and antibiotics (almost all food animals), being kept in unnatural and painful conditions (think chickens kept with the lights on 23 hours a day and growing so fast their legs often "break", also poor veal-calves kept in the dark and deliberately left anaemic and alone). This cruelty also manifests itself in horrendous slaughter methods which are often ineffective, slow and painful.
ARAN are also highlighting that meat is unnecessary for human life and in many cases can actually cause harm. Too much meat is bad for your health, and this is just the good meat. The bad meat, ie that infected by BSE or e-coli is alot worse for you.
Whether or not you agree with the statement "MEat is Murder" anyone with a bit of analysis, compassion and intelligence should agree that meat should be treated with extreme caution.
Fair play to those guys in Limerick!
good creative peaceful protest on a corrupt and unhealthy industry. It takes guts to do something like this. Thanks to the protestors for their courage and dedication. It is appreciated.
Please ignore the unconstructive and ignorant people who tend to post on animal rights threads.
You will also be glad to know that we are bringing this Meat Tray demonstration to Dublin and Belfast next week.
Isn't it nice we have become so advance in our food production, we have a choise as to what we eat. Not too long ago people hunted in America for a food source... and some still do so. In many countries in the world a choise is not something one has, but hunting our gathering is the only main food source.
We parallel murder with food... and we all suffer. If you really want to break it down to murder.... then that apple you bite into also suffers death... the tomato you hack with a knife... and those banana's... don't get me started.
We have the right to eat animals... as out teeth indicate... the indicate we were designed to eat both meat and non-meat items.
But putting oneself on a tray in protest only alienates your target audience further, and will never win any argument. If you want to gain substance then use knowledge and prove why you do not agree with it... but next time you are in the store... thank all those farmers who spend their lives... giving you choice.
It does nobody any favours, from a "quality of the food" point of view or from a suffering point of view. Even the most selfish meat eater should see this.
I'm sure large meat companies laugh at the fact that there are always people who will defend their foul practices, while buying and eating their unhealthy products, probably harming themselves in the process. While all the time their profits soar.
Such irony!
There is a whole area of food politics and choice in consumerism that is largely unmentioned
here, also there is the mass production aspect of meat consumption.
Lifestyle choices in 'eating' is a growth area- witness the upsurge of food mag's, the wide
range and variety of shops dedicated to special diet and the organic/health sector.
Three things:
1. Special dietary requirements are very prevalent- there has been a massive growth in eating
disorders in the west- physical illnesses such as Gord, colitis, dairy allergy and the
disorders of obseity and anorexia. Some of these illnesses require specific diet
and two alleregens are meat and dairy. In gord- for example dairy is out, processed
is out, red meat is out and cooking simply from raw ingredients is something that
has to be adhered to. Compare and contrast someone with the illness and how they shop
to the consumer who eats massive amounts of over-packaged, over processed food- its not
healthy from and environmental or bodily perspective to be buying so much crap and giving
it to your kids too. Gord is not expensive but it is tedious.
2.Kids with asthmas and conditions which are gluten/dairy triggered have a harder time
as the soy/ricemilk diets are incredibly expensive, though parents tend to cook simply
and avoid processed foods- which is good. The government does not contribute
much to these food budgets and info is scare- unless a society or health nurse
provides it.
3.Lifestyle choices allow us to import exotics instead of doing our own growing and
cooking in season- this causes environmental problems and is part of globaisation
=bad. Our magazines have whole lucious sections dedicated to food and health- but
some people just don't get the healthy balanced diet we do , or aspire to
and there is something wrong there.
I was in a supermarket behind a woman with a loaded trolley - her bill was 198.00
euros, mine was 16. The assistant said "see you friday for the big shop", it was wednesday..
I never saw so much crap in my life- bottled water, high end cereals, processed food.
Health problems- big time.
Food politics are something worth considering, in the west we veer between obseity
and thiness. People cleanse their colons and buy organic, its a lifestyle thing.
Some do not have the choice about what they are feeding their kids and the WHO/
WTO meeting on CODEX food supplements ended yesterday, thus we shall all
find out what is healthy for us. They'll be putting prozac in the cornflakes next......
H.R. 4239 was introduced on November 4th. Its Senate companion bill (S. 3880) was passed UNANIMOUSLY in September.
Here's the summary:
'Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act - Rewrites federal criminal code provisions regarding animal enterprise terrorism to prohibit anyone from traveling in, or using the mail or any facility of, interstate or foreign commerce for the purpose of damaging or disrupting an animal enterprise and, in connection with such purpose: (1) intentionally damaging, disrupting, or causing the loss of property used by or owned in connection with such enterprise; (2) intentionally placing a person in reasonable fear of death or serious bodily injury to that person or a family member through threats, vandalism, property damage, trespass, harassment, or intimidation; or (3) conspiring or attempting to do so. Prescribes escalating penalties.
Authorizes restitution for: (1) the reasonable cost of repeating any experimentation that was interrupted or invalidated as a result of such offense; (2) the loss of food production or farm income reasonably attributable to such offense; and (3) any other economic damage, including any losses or costs caused by economic disruption, resulting from such offense.'

This is a brillaint protest, at least it's peaceful and to the point! people are so detached from their food, when they pick a package of meat of the shelf they don't associate it with an animal that used to be alive. maybe if they had to kill it themselves they wouldn't be so eager to eat meat anymore!
Honestly I know they're expensive to buy and troublesome to catch, but you can't tell me you get sentimental looking into their eyes. Then just pop them in cold water and raise the heat till they go pink, leave them boiling for a while & then break their insect like bodies in bits and yum yum tasty tasty not quite piggies bum but you'll be on your way to killing your own food & as long as you don't stick a waterproof ultrasound microphone in the pot you'll have no notion what they went through. If it makes you feel better, play some Mozart.
*the author name of this comment in reference to the work by HG Wells by the title "Dr Moreau's island. A short cautionary tale which told of a shipwreck who finds himself the uninvited guest of a vivisectionist ( & mad scientist) who devotes his life to turning animals into human like creatures. The work reflected both HG Wells' vegetarianism & mistaken belief in the nature of blood and its importance to what we would now term "genomic" or "genetic" or even "DNA" determinist principles of evolution. It was a recurrent theme and misconception in his long career as one of the fathers of modern science fiction. In his much more noted "War of the Worlds", the invading Martians (which plausibly symbolised totalitarian or as has been argued European colonial imperialist attitudes) use human as a food stuff. Significantly the papers of the HG Wells estate showed that more of his fans & correspondents claimed to have converted to vegetarianism on reading "War of the Worlds" than the shorted and infintely more (in my opinion) gruesome "Island of Dr Moreau". Most significantly of all none of his little fans or followers wrote to him reporting he had inspired them to the Socialism he professed & the true love of brother and sister human.
I have no qualms about killing and butchering my meat anytime. As did your grandparents and about two generations of irish people before you. So sad to see the irish drift away from their agragrian roots within two generations.
For one thing, more people need to stick up for animals rights because too many of you are ignorant to what they go through. Its horrible how most think that they don't have feelings, and who really cares anyway they are just animals right? Well they have just as much right to a humane life as any of you, maybe even more. They may have been put on this earth to feed us, although why would eating meat cause so many problems in the long run healthwise if feeding us is what God created them for? Anyhow they were not put here so we can make their lives a living hell. They don't deserve to be treating like shit so we can have a burger. Its disgusting.
It has often been said that "actions speak louder than words". People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (PeTA) is an organization that capitalizes on that. In this ad PeTA attempts to persuade the public to stop eating meat by using controversial yet mind provoking stunts to develop empathy and sympathy towards animals but in doing so they may have also offended many people.
The image on this ad presenting an almost naked human body wrapped in plastic on a human flesh tray with fake blood suggests that; if you eat meat, you are eating flesh which has feelings and emotions. And above all; it is suggesting that eating meat is like eating a corpse. The truth is that people don't like to be reminded of how their meat got to their plates, this ad is about capturing peoples conscious in hopes to get people thinking about the parallels between acts of violence against humans and towards animals since we both originate from the same root. So in light of the fact that like humans, animals are also made of flesh and blood, PeTA is trying to convince the public to express compassion towards all beings by converting to a vegetarian/vegan diet.
While at the same time by being so over the edge, PeTA may have crossed the line for many people who are outraged and morally offended by this ad. If you see it from another perspective it seems like PeTA is equating eating animal meat to cannibalism and murder. These extremist views may have many people thinking that PeTA is a fanatical group that uses unethical, and terror tactics to force their beliefs upon other people. The text on the product sticker in this ad bluntly states: “Billions of animals are abused and violently killed because you eat meat. Get help!” This kind of attack on the meat consuming community shows no sensitivity or respect towards humanity. Not only is this kind of advertisement obscene but it also takes away from the purpose of the ad and instead fuels rebellion and rage against the noble cause.
In conclusion, PeTA protesters are funneling their aggravation into very controversial acts to stir up media attention. PeTA is speaking up for those who cannot speak for themselves. This campaign is aimed at nauseating, revolting and shocking people at the sight of meat and in doing so make the public see the world from the animals’ perspective. Clearly this Ad is trying to make people feel sympathy and empathy towards animals and then as a result, turn to a vegetarian/vegan lifestyle; nevertheless some people may consider this ad to be vulgar and violating moral principles due to the lack of consideration shown towards humanity.
As Dr. Albert Schweitzer mentions in The Philosophy of Civilization: " True humanity does not allow us to impose such suffering on them. It is our duty to make the whole world recognize it. Until we expand our circle of compassion to all living things, humanity will not find peace".
"What about Vegetable Rights? Why are you only concerned with the Animal Kingdom? This Speciesism must stop!"
Concern (in AR/AW terms) is generally confined to species endowed with a central nervous system. I have head of fruititarians although I have never met one, and doubt a human would live very long without the 13 essential amino acids available from foods such as soya beans (a vegetable, with no central nervous system)
Can I just say.... to parody your comment Pushkin.... "What about womens rights? Why are you only concerned with the black community? This sexism must stop!"
Ham (aka decaying pig flesh) salad...
"We have the right to eat animals... as our teeth indicate... " Please explain this statement with actual scientific fact. I ask this as I know you cannot. Our teeth are far from those of a carnivore. Could your incisors really rip flesh from bones???? Even Gorillas have huge incisors compared to ours, yet eat only leaves...... Dentition, plus the length of our gut (far longer that carnivores) shows that we are designed to eat veggies. Sure a little meat won't kill us. But we all realise at this stage that meat is full of saturated fats and that veggies and fruits are so healthy we should eat as much as possible.
Snowball
What was the point of your post? Sorry, it's lost on me but I would like to understand!
Incidentally, I am not a PETA member, and don't even agree with them on the vast majority of issue,. but I do think this protest is to the point and that the point in itself is faultless.
