poor young males subject to generations of systemic deprivation - lock em up - and just for good measure make sure lots of them who are addicts die or are incapacitated by Aids or Hep-C courtesy of the longterm effects of 'the care of the state'.

What is Moral Fuzziness?

Is it when you cannot see the world exclusively through "compassionate" eyes while your glasses are being stolen from your pocket?

McDowell has no fuzziness hence the nonsensical disdain poured on him.

Would it be too much to remind Indymedia that McDowell is elected to his post. Also, he is one the few to remain there following the re-shuffle. Horrible as it may seem - many people LIKE what McDowell does and were PISSED OFF at fuckers who could not take a stance on anything before his appointment.

Those fuckers were the ones with the major problems with "moral fuzziness".

Tony's right in pointing out that McDowell hasn't had any "moral fuzziness". He's been quite consistent in all his dealings with the poor, with immigrants, and with civil liberties for all people generally. The guy's a fascist.

"Anon"

He is nowhere near the extreme left of centre where fascism lives hand in hand with socialism.

Nor is he a dictator - nor is he unelected - nor is he running the Country.

Has anyone out there got something on topic to these discussions?

Whenever Tony writes something that is concerned with fact, as opposed to his opinions he is wrong. For example in his post above he includes one piece of factual statement:

QUOTE: "Would it be too much to remind Indymedia that McDowell is elected to his post."
ANSWER: Yes, Tony it would be too much. McDowell was appointed to his post. He was not elected as anything other than a TD. Stop frothing, stop posting inanities and do some work. Really, you're a great example of the empty vessel.

Extract

Mussolini: "... Fascism [is] the complete opposite of... Marxian Socialism, the materialist conception of the history of human civilization can be explained simply through the conflict of interests among the various social groups and by the change and development in the means and instruments of production....

Fascism, now and always, believes in holiness and in heroism; that is to say, in actions influenced by no economic motive, direct or indirect. And if the economic conception of history be denied, according to which theory men are no more than puppets, carried to and fro by the waves of chance, while the real directing forces are quite out of their control, it follows that the existence of an unchangeable and unchanging class-war is also denied - the natural progeny of the economic conception of history. And above all Fascism denies that class-war can be the preponderant force in the transformation of society....

... "The maxim that society exists only for the well-being and freedom of the individuals composing it does not seem to be in conformity with nature's plans.... If classical liberalism spells individualism," Mussolini continued, "Fascism spells government."

Some versions of socialism which emphasise the dictatorship of the proletariat and view as necessary the strong, guiding hand of the Party cadres have a lot in common with fascism: namely their authoritarianism and reliance on a State structure.

Similarly the use of a command-economy is common to both these visions of society.

The current structure of the USA which uses huge government interference and control of the market (mostly through the "defence" budget, but also through explicit government subsidies to various industries) shares a lot with the fascist and USSR economies.

Of course socialism can also be argued to include explicitly libertarian visions which makes the use of "socialism" meaningless in this case and shows Tony to be raving again.

I dont like the guy. He has an attitude of superiority and likes to push people around.
For every law he has introduced to crack down he has introduced another to water the original.
Agree with tough law or disagree, either way McDowell is not your friend.
By the way, the reason he got the job as Minister for justice and kept it was because himself and misery guts were put in or the PD's wouldnt join FF in government. thats why he stays and thats why Bertie cant remove him.
He wont be the only cause of FF government collapse but hes done more than his fair share.

I don't see much difference between mcdowell and other justice ministers. I just think some people feel ideologically driven to oppose him.

Others are sucked in by media spin to back or oppose him.

"The guy's a fascist."

If McDowell is a fascist then Hitler must be back from the grave and running Denmark, in peaceful happy Scandinavia.
