The Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign, supported by scores of other Irish civil society groups, has called another National Demonstration for Palestine on Saturday 17th February, starting at the Garden of Remembrance at 1pm and going to the Department of Foreign Affairs on St. Stephen’s Green to bring our demands to the Irish government’s doorstep.

END GAZA GENOCIDE!
END ISRAELI APARTHEID!
SANCTIONS NOW!
FREEDOM AND JUSTICE FOR PALESTINE!

This march – endorsed by scores of Irish civil society organisations – has been called as part of the Global Day of Action for Gaza. On Dec 13th 2022, Andrew Bridgen UK MP finally had enough and decided he could no longer stay silent and gave a speech in the British Parliament. Since that day for the crime of breaking the narrative the establishment has carried out a witch hunt to vilify him and to throw destroy his career and slandering and spreading lies and mistruths about him since.

The whole point of the witch hunt is to send a warning to anyone else to not even think about breaking ranks because this big huge open secret about the dangers and terrible harm caused by the Covid vaccine must not be spoken.

There was widespread coverage that he had said something upsetting to the system but for those searching it would be hard to find out what it was he said so to redress the balance we carry the text of his speech and the video and audio as well as a link to an interview he did sometime later where he gave some background to the whole affair. read full story / add a comment

I originally wrote this piece in September 2021 following the announcement by United States President Joe Biden that US forces would withdraw from Afghanistan, but never sought to publish the piece. The Irish Government is playing both sides on the matter of foreign affairs, calling for peace and claiming to be 'neutral' while actively supporting Western military imperialism. In this peice, I examine and criticise the involvement of Ireland in the Afghanistan War, with sources provided at the end.

national / indymedia ireland / news report Wednesday October 27, 2021 23:22 by 1 of Indy

Indymedia Ireland was 20 years old this month, on Oct 10th in fact. It has been a long road to here and at times debateable whether it would survive in the latter years. This short article gives a quick overview of its history and where it is now.

Back in 2001 the big anti-globalisation demonstrations of Seattle 1999 were still fresh in people's minds when the first Indymedia centers were setup and the network was still rapidly growing. In Ireland back then there was a great need for an alternative voice and there was no central site that could been considered Left leaning.

A media news item reads: “EU pledges support for Ukraine amid Russian military buildup along borders.”
Irish soldiers could be used as sandbags for on-coming Soviet air-to-ground missiles. A real possibility in the future, if Ireland does not pull back from the growing EU militarisation program.

Twelve years after losing their original case against the planning permission for a LNG terminal on the shannon River, Friends of the Irish Environment [FIE] today received a High Court order quashing An Bord Pleanala’s grant of permission and awarding costs in their favour. The proposed terminal was due to process Liquid Natural Gas [LNG] from the USA for consumption in Ireland and to be distributed throughout the EU.

EU Court scuttles planned fracked gas terminal permission

‘Far reaching’ EU Court ruling on shannon LNG terminal welcomed

The European Court of Justice has advised the Irish High Court that the 2018 extension by An Bord Pleanála to the 2008 planning permission for the construction of a proposed €500m fracked gas terminal on the south bank of the River shannon estuary must be considered as a new permit for the purposes of the Habitats Directive and must be subject to a new Assessment under the Habitats Directive.

IRELAND'S UN SECURITY COUNCIL SEAT

LETTER SENT TO IRISH BROADSHEET NEWSPAPERS

Sir,

Ireland’s previous stint on the UN Security Council in 2001 is nothing to be proud of in terms of promoting world peace.

In 2001, under the then Fianna Fail Government with Brian Cowan as Foreign Minister, Ireland voted for several resolutions that ultimately approved the US led invasion of Afghanistan, one of the poorest countries in the world, in what then Labour TD Michael D. Higgins termed “an illegal war”. Nineteen years later with no end in sight America’s longest war has caused the deaths and injuries of tens of thousands, many of them women and children, and has created deep bitterness, division and sectarianism. read full story / add a comment

The controversial shannon LNG terminal proposed for the shannon Estuary faces its second challenge in the High Court from the environmental charity, Friends of the Irish Environment today. The environmental organisation is asking the Irish Court to seek a ruling from the Court of Justice of the European Union on whether the inclusion of the project on a list of priority European Energy infrastructure was lawful. read full story / add a comment

The Programme for Government produced by Fianna Fail, Fine Gael and the Green Party promises a lot that is encouraging, but on the issue of US military use of shannon Airport - which the majority of Irish people oppose - it is disappointing. The change of government provided an opportunity to end Irish complicity in the ongoing cycles of war and occupation that have been responsible for the loss of millions of lives this century. The military industrial complex is also the single biggest polluter on the planet (see recent study from Brown University’s Costs of War project). The US. Department of Defense has a larger annual carbon footprint than most countries on earth, and with its global network of bases and logistics networks the US military is the single biggest emitter of carbon dioxide in the world outside of nation-states themselves.
