It's bad enough that all UK TV users are forced to fund the BBC via a TV licence. But it's worse than that, says Charlotte Gill: millions of pounds of taxpayers' money are handed to the corporation via backdoor channels.

I heard from a good source that Shane Hennelly will not be taking up his position as he is going to America on a Handball scholarship for a year instead.

Can someone from the SU officially come on and confirm or deny this?

Can someone confirm the decision of Hennelly to piss off to play ball in the states? Please let it be soooo....

james carroll is definetly not right wing.
have u ever spoken to the guy?
Why do the vast majority of the people on this site fail to recognise the social democrats within FF, and that they are in fact the majority within FF?
Its PD infiltration that is trying to change our party.

author by antrophepublication date Mon Mar 15, 2004 03:48author address author phone Report this post to the editors

So after all that shit during the election that our friend, James C, the Fianna Fail social democrat had left the party, it now turns out he hasn't!?! OHMIGOD! Theres a surprise, my faith in democracy lies in tatters in a pool of piss beside me...

author by I know James wellpublication date Mon Mar 15, 2004 11:49author address author phone Report this post to the editors

I know James well, he is right wing. He supports the war in Iraq, he supports cuts in health care, he is a member of FF, a supporter of the government, on Coke he is anti-boycott, he opposes the anti deportation campaign, he opposes the idea of the 'Free Dave Murphy campaign'.... It is clear that on nearly all the issues that he has taken up, he is on the right.

author by Jameswatchpublication date Mon Mar 15, 2004 14:35author address author phone Report this post to the editors

I wonder where James will stand on the racist referendum being proposed by his government? No prizes for guessing!

"james carroll is definetly not right wing."

What! I always though supporting privatisation and the occupation of iraq put you on the right of the political spectrum. (source: last SU Council meeting on USI congress)

He also opposes the campaign to free a jailed student for protesting and he opposes 'wasting' money on an anti-departation campaign that was started when a Nursing student was being deported. (Source: his election campaign and the college papers). James has no problem with corporate funded education (source: the hustings debates)

James beleves he is the best man for the job of education officer as he is not "a fucking communist" (source: lecture address in Engineering).

James Carroll is on the right of the political spectrum. He may not be as right as others in FF. But he is still on the right. At least be honest about it!

I think that Róisín is the best candidate. She is the most experienced candidate. She's got my vote. And I'm getting all me mates to vote for her...so there!

PS
Shane Hennelly is not taking up office. That's from a good source. The love of handball in the states is beckoning!

author by RONaldpublication date Mon Mar 15, 2004 18:29author address author phone Report this post to the editors

Can someone please come on with a real name and verify Hennelly's resignation.

If it is true it vindicates the position taken by Cogavin and the RON campaign.

So are there any FF lefties (or less than right than usual?) at all in UCD or are they all fascist evil bigoted types whose sole ambition in life is to destroy the SU?

rosin for irish - an excellent dedicated candidate, i would have every confidence in her.
tobie for women's - also very dedicated, approachable, and imaginative. i couldnt think of anyone better for the job.
then
ron for the other two unless they sufficiently convince me otherwise

Why the FUCK does everything always come down to a right/left divide. According to you socialists, if you're not Left, clearly you must be Right. For fuck sake, cop the fuck on.

It's possible to be neither.

I am certainly not taking up any position in the united states for handball or otherwise.I don't really like posting especially on this site but i feel this merits a post.

I was mandated by the students of UCD to become their welfare officer and by god thats what im gonna do

Im not right wing not that it matters and would never join a political party cause none of them represent my personal beliefs

Well done to Sinéad on getting Irish Language officer! best person for the job but politically where does she stand? Tadhg was a clear F F'er and Roisin, a Socialist, but SInéad so far hasn't made anything clear.

author by Mr Bojanglespublication date Sat Apr 03, 2004 13:26author address author phone Report this post to the editors

Given Sinéad's interest in the Gaeilge & the trad. music, etc, it's easy just to presume that she's very much right wing but from talking to her I'm not so sure. She was very involved in some government protest about the irish in the EU and some other stuff. .....will be interested to find our for def where she stands on things
