The BBC's Director of Comedy wants to "save the sitcom". But the sitcom is only endangered because most of them stopped being funny. As To the Manor Born reminds us, British comedy has lost its class, says Finlay McLaren.

We're a week away from the most painful Budget in history thanks largely to the eye-watering cost of lockdown. Yet Baroness Hallett says next time the Government must be ready to go harder and faster. This is insanity.

It's bad enough that all UK TV users are forced to fund the BBC via a TV licence. But it's worse than that, says Charlotte Gill: millions of pounds of taxpayers' money are handed to the corporation via backdoor channels.

Aviation Authority Office Occupation

category dublin | anti-war / imperialism | news report author Monday November 03, 2003 11:44author by Ld Report this post to the editors

Forty or so people turned up at the Spike in support of the 5 Catholic Workers who are having a pre-trial hearing in the Four Courts this morning.
I don't have full details but seemingly on their way towards the Four Courts a group of about six broke off and are occupying the Aviation Authority Office for the last half hour or so!
Will update on hearing more news.

The 6/7 who gained access to the building are displaying photos of Iraqi children while sitting down praying, there is a small group of suppporters outside, including one man with a loud speaker who is (no doubt) explaining to passers-by what's goin on!
Protesters inside the building are expected to leave shortly.

Seven people occupied the Aviation Authority Office. No arrests were made. The Catholic Worker five are out of court now. No court date was set and they have yet to be furnished with discovery evidence.

I am sure the Iraqi people will be overwhelmed when this news breaks. I hope CNN do'nt over expose the story.

'I am sure the Iraqi people will be overwhelmed when this news breaks. I hope CNN do'nt over expose the story.'

Al Jazeera did massively more coverage of the first Mary Kelly trial than any Irish Media.

The Irish media wont talk much to her or the Catholic Work 5 because of 'Sub Judice'

Sub Judice = Crack Down on Free Speech

'1.2.4 The media have to be careful also that they do not report or comment in such a way as to interfere with a person’s right to have a fair trial. For example, Gerry Ryan and RTÉ were fined £200 and £500 respectively in 1990 because of a live radio interview with an alleged rape victim, broadcast before the accused person’s trial had been held. It was argued successfully that the radio interview could prejudice the accused’s right to a fair trial, primarily by influencing members of the jury. The courts are particularly concerned where there is a jury involved that media reports could influence them to the detriment of the accused. This is especially so when the trial is pending within a short space of time, a matter of weeks or months.'

you forgot to humiliate them, insult their way of life ,take control of their earning power arrest anyone who crticised your occupation, and
dream up interesting labels for any aviation staff who opposed you!

do try to learn from history!
