Right2Water National Day of Local Protests - Sat Nov 1st

category national | bin tax / household tax / water tax | event notice author Tuesday October 21, 2014 23:52author by Right2Waterauthor email Right2WaterIRL at gmail dot com Report this post to the editors

Sat Nov 1st is going to be a Right2Water National Day of Local Protests from 12am onwards

The Right2Water campaign is helping to coordinate dozens of local demonstrations across Ireland, all due to take place on November 1st.

Following on from one of the largest national demonstrations in Irish history, the Right2Water campaign says it will continue to build a mass movement of opposition to water charges.

The campaign – which involves trade unions, political parties and community groups – believes people are angry and unified in their opposition to these unfair charges.

The campaign is asking all anti-water charges groups – including political parties – to unify and work together to ensure as large a demonstration as possible in their home towns and cities.

*********************************************************************************************
Template flyers and posters are being made available on the Right2Water.ie website to facilitate assembly points for local demonstrations. The campaign is also recommending a meeting is hosted in local areas in order to establish a coordinating group.

Right2Water is suggesting a number of options for protests including:

  1. The printing of hard copies of the petition, which can be filled in by locals on the day and returned to campaign headquarters.
  2. Choose a convenient assembly point.
  3. March from the assembly point to a location designated by the coordinating committee of the local R2W group.
  4. All groups should assign one chair with three (or more) speakers in opposition to water charges.
  5. All groups to assign at least one person to update their social media accounts (Facebook/Twitter) with images using the hashtag #Right2Water. These will be shared by the national social media account.

The strength of the Right2Water campaign is its diversity and its broad based unity. “If we all work together we can defeat these water charges and return to a water supply system that is based on need and not on ability to pay.”

In order to be involved in the campaign you only need to have two beliefs:

  1. Water is a human right; and
  2. Water charges should be abolished.

Full details of Right2Water local demonstrations will be announced on Tuesday, 28th October.

Another national demonstration will be organised in the coming weeks as the campaign continues to grow.

Sat Nov 1st is going to be a Right2Water National Day of Local Protests.
