Stuff your Poll Tax!!

category national | bin tax / household tax / water tax | opinion/analysis author Thursday December 15, 2011 10:09author by Pól Ó Cionsalíghauthor email paulbkinsella at gmail dot comauthor address An Chúlóg, Báile Átha Cliath 17author phone 0851478100 Report this post to the editors

I fully support Independent TD Thomas Pringle's call on people to support a campaign not to pay this hideous Household Charge (Poll Tax!!!). Mr Pringle says he will not register for the tax, nor will he pay it. Well done Thomas Pringle :-) At last we have we have some principled TDs in An Dáil Éireann who are prepared to suffer personally for their beliefs they know are in Our Country's And People's best interests.

Well done Thomas Pringle, and Socialist TD Joe Higgins and Sinn Féin TD Aengus Ó Snodaigh who've also said they're not paying our Poll Tax and who are calling on us the ordinary folk not to pay it either. Socialist TD Joe Higgins is dead right when he told Dá Furher Enda Kenny that the charge will be greeted by a mass public boycott, similar to the boycott of water charges in the mid 1990s. Joe Higgins is also spot on when says the Government could source funding for local services by refusing to pay over €1bn to unsecured Anglo bondholders in January. The draconian fines of €2500 for non-payment of the Household Charge (Poll Tax!!) is a disgraceful campaign of intimidation, but they will not work. Please listen to Age Action who say the charge will put hardship on older people who are already struggling. Age Action say the vast majority of older people own their homes, and over half of older people are dependent on the State pension. This Household Tax will start off at €100 per year now, but will soar to €1200 a year by 2014 according to reliable reports :-( And all to pay for zombie banks. Let's get the message out loud and clear: "We're Not Paying The Household Charge!"

It should only be imposed on the wealthiest public sector on earth. So that Angelal Merkel and the other German working class don't pull the plug on Irish public sector pretentiousness.

This is what happened at We the Citizens last summer. They decied to tax everyone more!

http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/ireland/2011/1213/1....html

We the Citizens is fronted by Mr. Mac Conghail Abbey theatre manager and a Fine Gael appointed Senator. A so-called “citizens’ assembly” was hosted by Mr. Mac Conghail in the modern art gallery in Kilmainham last summer. The agenda was preset by a conservative academic elite think-tank.

A glossy report sent on Friday 13th December to government from the We the Citizens so-called “citizens’ assembly” recommends property and water taxes! The report recommends that its citizens’ assembly be absorbed into the coalition’s proposed Constitution Review Convention. You couldn't make it up.

Elite well funded groups such as the university academic group who set up We the Citizens are part of the problem in Ireland and are definitely not the solution. If they really wanted meaningful change they would have followed the citizens’ assembly model from British Columbia which put its proposals to a referendum and not to government.

People who want change should support grassroots groups such as Occupy, Second Republic, Claiming our Future, etc. They are all pushing for meaningful change in different ways.
