ANIMAL ABUSE aka BLOODSPORTS WILL HAVE SURVIVED 101 YEARS in Millstreet.

The annual Millstreet Hare coursing event set for 3rd/4th Jan 2015 has already caused disgruntled locals to contact ourselves and other direct action Animal rights Groups.

This cruel spectacle actually takes place on a GAA pitch in a local public park. The park in the centre of the town, a favourite with locals, dog walkers, footballers etc however is disrupted for four weeks a year and actually has a rusty dump of an enclosure permanently in place to hold the netted hares for the coursing two day event. All this is allowed in a public park such is the power of the Town Park Committee. The opposition to ending this has prompted people to release the hares on many occasions but sadly they get recaptured and coursed, it fails as too many obstacles stop their escape and they are enclosed behind more wire than can be dismantled, until maybe this year if locals do not give up.

SPANISH chef lost his sense of taste and had his skull reinforced with screws after being struck with a golf club and wooden samurai sword in a savage street assault.

Jorge Roca (40), from Valencia in Spain, insisted he still loves Ireland and Cork despite the unprovoked attack that left him fighting for his life.
Shane Cotter (20) of Annmount Cross, Friars walk, Cork, who has 49 previous convictions, was jailed for three years for assault causing serious harm.

''Danny O'Brien (20) of Brandon Court, Dillons Cross, Cork, who produced the golf club used by Cotter to attack Mr Roca and who has 84 previous convictions, was jailed for 18 months for violent disorder.

The Spaniard told the Irish Independent he was disappointed with the sentences. "I am not a judge. I am a chef. But that was not really very good," he said.

Cotter later told Gardai: "I wanted to do damage. I was in a temper. I wanted to kill him."

An insight into prison life in Ireland, namely Castlerea Prison, Co Roscommon.

On 21st April 2010 I was convicted of assaulting a number of Gardaí in relation to Shell to Sea protests and sentenced to 6 months imprisonment. Remission for good behaviour means that prisoners will have their sentences reduced by a quarter, once you keep your nose clean. I was given credit for 2 weeks time served previously in 2009, before I was bailed out pending my appeal.

So I spent 4 months in jail from April to August in the summer of 2010. read full story / add a comment

On International Womens Day (March 8th) 2010 on a public street in Dublin a leading Irish Palestine solidarity activist was harrassed by a member of the Israeli embassy security team while photographing street art.

In this bizarre incident, Freda Hughes, a prominent member of the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign, was aggressively questioned about her name and movements by an Israeli embassy staff member and a member of An Garda Síochána while walking on Northumberland Road in Dublin 4.

Working people hit the streets in huge numbers on November 6th. The protests showed, once again, that there is a willingness to resist the government’s attacks on living standards. Most observers put the total number who walked out of work to take part in the eight protests at around 100,000. read full story / add a comment
